GPS UMI PLUS - Running 99%
Good night guys.
I have a UMi Plus for almost two months and in this period I have been doing several procedures to better the GPS of the device that, until then, was useless for me, because it did not work.
My last attempt was to root in the device and perform some procedures also "nebulous", because I did not know if they would work.
After doing the root and performing such procedures, I verified that nothing had changed. At least the way I used the GPS in the car (lying on the console with the antenna hidden between the console and the dashboard).
Last night, I decided to do a little test with the antenna of the device.
I used the YGPS (engineering mode) to locate and fix the radars. After fixing, I covered the antenna with my hand (I only placed my hand covering the top of the device, where the headphone jack is) and after a few seconds the GPS signal simply disappeared. All the satellites disconnected. I would take my hand and the signal would come back.
My conclusion: the GPS antenna is very bad. It loses the signal with any type of obstruction.
Today I decided to do a test on the return route of my work. The route has approximately 13km between city and highway.
In the morning, I let the GPS fix (I used YGPS again).
I opened Google Maps (until then with 4G connected).
I placed the device on the car's panel vertically so that the antenna was not obstructed.
I started the route. The signal still dropped, but less frequently, and it was fastened again faster.
In the middle of the route, I turned off the 4G and started walking with the offline map of Google Maps. From there, the signal no longer dropped and I got to work with a good GPS performance. I noticed that it takes a while in case of route recalculation, but, he can find himself.
At lunchtime, I bought one of those brackets that fit the ventilation of the car.
Now, on my return from work, I decided to test with the 4G on for a longer time.
It went off until well, but, the signal still fell for a few times, however, always returning in no time. The performance was satisfactory.
In summary: the antenna (top of the unit) can not be obstructed. She needs to be free in every way. The GPS works best offline, because the antenna is the same one used by the data signal (I believe that one hinders the other in some way). I was only able to navigate satisfactorily with Google Maps. I used an app offline, but it did not work. I do not know if the procedures I did with root helped anything.
It was what was missing for my Plus to be perfect
Just to state: I'm using Android 7, version 28122016.
I hope I have helped.
