Stop whining about warranty issues & crap and feed more productive posts. Please.
UMI seems not to care about us anyway. So let's help ourselves.
Yesterday, after trying all the software fixed without success, I opened my super and tried Haluska's fix with the aluminium foil, as seem on page 17. Congrats, Haluska! You nailed it!
Opening the phone was super simple, finding also just one connector for the three pins (4G & GPS). I did it with a swiss army knive in a hotel room in Bangladesh - so anybody can do it.
Warranty? Come on, it's a 200€ phone - AND not working anyway. Crack it open!
After putting it all together, it didn't seem much different. I saw 8 to 10 satellites, like before but followed the MTK procedure (Haluska posted the link) anyway. Twice, because I guess, I messed up the first time.
Around the hotel, walking, I could not notice any significant difference to before.
But this morning in the car: what a difference!!!
The jumping has gone! And accuracy is far more superior than before!
Let's stay real, compared to my iPhone 6, it is still bad. But what a tremendous improvement!! Thanks Haluska!
As having a little bit of understanding in electronics - I doubt, this aluminium shortcut will be the ultimate fix.
Seems, there is two different antenna connections (3rd pin is ground, not used). So we basically shorten the two different signal inputs of 4G and GPS.
So, either 4G (non existing in Bangladesh) is not/less working anymore, or the reception could be corrupted.
But we are going the right way, Haluska! Well done!
Next step will be, that I order the 13$ back cover (also stated here in the thread), which provides two separate antennas and proceed testing from there.
4G (back in Europe) and GPS will have their own antennas and both should see an improvement in reception.
I really like the Super, besides the GPS...
Regards!
