Umi Plus and GPS Signal

There in no separate GPS module.

The GPS circuitry is inside the SoC. Some very expensive phones use dedicated GPS receiver because they do not trust SoC GPS (not even SnapDragon one).

Since we are talking Mediatek SoC here, this means CHEAP so yes, it has internal GPS circuit but not the best one, also in such high gain RF amplifiers as used in GPS receivers slight variations (tolerances) in components might differentiate between borderline acceptable behavior and totally useless in real life.

Only thing we can modify is GPS antenna, this is a receive only antenna (does not transmit ever) and it must be FAR away from transmitting antennas and in DIFFERENT ORIENTATION if at all possible.

Given the above mentioned about SoC GPS receiver, anyone understands that if you put the cheapest antenna in the worst placement possible, then what can you expect from that combination?

Anyone capable (language and technical understanding) should really read this.

Yesterday I was comparing gps with HTC M8.
M8 is working with any problem, UMI cannot find heading, gps signal strenght is half of M8.

When I put both phones close to bulding, M8 lost half of satelites, but UMI lost all of them..

So true, we will have to try to do something with antena. Allready I was searching for antenas:

here is the screen video. At first you see the phone info (german) and then a Navigation sample. In the first seconds of the Navigation I have done a U-Turn. The GPS performance is not the best, but it works.

Yes, I saw. You are right. Your UMI Plus is working correctly during 3 min. You are a lucky man dude!!! I wish to you that you can use your mobile for long time.

Today I have  managed to sell my UMI Plus. Halleluja!!!!!!

GPS of UMI Plus is worse than every other phone i use. You'll get a fix in minutes and you'll loose it in seconds. Same thing a UMi Super.

It would be good if UMI would comment the GPS problem officially.

What should the affected users do?
Are only individual devices affected?
Are the presale devices affected?
Was the problem investigated by UMI?
