There in no separate GPS module.
The GPS circuitry is inside the SoC. Some very expensive phones use dedicated GPS receiver because they do not trust SoC GPS (not even SnapDragon one).
Since we are talking Mediatek SoC here, this means CHEAP so yes, it has internal GPS circuit but not the best one, also in such high gain RF amplifiers as used in GPS receivers slight variations (tolerances) in components might differentiate between borderline acceptable behavior and totally useless in real life.
Only thing we can modify is GPS antenna, this is a receive only antenna (does not transmit ever) and it must be FAR away from transmitting antennas and in DIFFERENT ORIENTATION if at all possible.
Given the above mentioned about SoC GPS receiver, anyone understands that if you put the cheapest antenna in the worst placement possible, then what can you expect from that combination?
