Current bugs on UMI Super

I thought it's better to create a thread to capture all the bugs. Below are the list of bugs I can think of.

• Google now app crashes randomly, unable to submit bug report.
• Only SIM Contacts appear when searching in the dailer. - This is no longer an issue.
• Unable to type all characters on the keyboard. For example: Cannot type "?" by long pressing on "." button on the onscreen keyboard.
• Camera issues, I don't have go into any details on ths one.
• Phone idle battery drain.
• Google on tap doesn't work with physical buttons because long press on home button is assigned to clear background apps. We need an option to re-assign long press actions on physical buttons.

@Beatertech sounds like a fanboy. Umi Super is not so super. That is why we point out the issues with 4g and the camera. Downgrade rom to fix issues?  Upgrades fixes issues. I don't have that much free time. I buy a phone and expect it to be bugfree. I know it's not an iPhone or Samsung. I feel deceived by Umi,  super camera,  super fast,  super battery life. We didn't.

I have been testing this latest firmware and have compiled a list of issues i detected on it...
several come allready from the first firmware....

a) Very serious problem with network, 3g, 4g and wifi, seems to be all mixed and conflicting...

b) Mic volume is now TOO LOW! Please add option to adjust the GAIN of the mic on the SUPER, callers now say they allmost don´t hear me speak!!!!!! URGENT

c) touchscreen is now worse and more innacurate! (why mess with something that was working well!!).

d) No Percentage on top for the battery... where is it???

e) Auto-Brightness is not working well the sensor seems to not be able to correctly detect the ammount of light present...

f) Some problems with arlequim light... sometimes it gets crazy and don´t show the correct collors.

g) Camera.... ohhh my... the camera so far is a mess... Very low Focus performance, no Continuous Auto-Focus on movies...

h) No way to put 1080p on the Camera APP, Stuttering on the record and playback...

i) Washed colors on photos and movies (yellow tint), lack of definition (due to bad focusing).

j) Tested with several camera apps, the behaviour is the same... Please FIX ASAP there camera problems...

k) Some erratic performance on fingerprint scanner. Faster, its not the same then better!

l) The battery is being drained way too fast... for a battery so big, this is very worrysome...

This is so far what i have detected... Like other user said... This looks more like a beta product, then a finalized product...

UMI please check this issues and give us an ETA on resolution...

The Camera issue is entirely software because they use the same camera in Ulefone Vienna. I suggest they focus on the camera issues. A battery drain, I can live with that, but a bad camera puts a bad name om Umi.

Hello...

Im so disapointed with UMI support right now...
No news, no firmware and just silence...

This phone is ridle with problems, and there are very grave problems, like the conflicting networks, that render the phone useless... Instabilitiy of the mobile data, doesnt allow for a correct fuctioning of the internet services...

Also many more problems need fixing...
I need a stable and functioning phone for my day to day business and this is such a shame...
I will give UMI SUPER one more week to see if UMI releases a new firmware... if not, i will send this back and purchase another phone from other brand...

In relation to bannie's latest comments:
1. I still have this issue ans the "report" feature does not work. Same issue on previous f/w and latest 16062016.
2.I don't have this issue - my google contacts appear as expected
3. I agree, stock keyboard should work as it is intended, we should not have to rely on 3rd party due to faulty std apps. Holding down "." or "," doesn't always allows you to choose the pop up options. Occasionally the "?" has worked, but the "right handed mode" by pressing "," doesn't work.
4. Not sure "Camera is fine for many people" - loads have reported the latest OTA making is worse. I confirm mine are darker.
5. too early to tell for me, I'm sorry.
6. I agree, new OTA doesn't allow you to change what each button does. only to swap from "Physical" to "Virtual". I think banie means to teh ability to change what the "Home" button does when you keep it pressed, so that we can use "Now on Tap"

ps - i have latest OTA with no modifications

I have to add also my issues:

1. horrible main camera - photos looks like from old mobile with 2mpx camera. It has nothing to do with presented famous photos. UMI Touch has 100x better quality of photos so why we have this issue on Super?

2. GPS - I am not able to get GPS signal in Google maps, Sygic or Waze. When I try some uncle tool and search for satelites I get at least 8 positions within 8000ms, so why I am not able to connect to GPS on maps? The problem with GPS on Mediatek is known, but also exist solutions for other mobiles where is needed access to ROM, so why guys from UMI dont fix it?

I understand that its a new product and some bugs can appear, but these are problems which they solved  on their previous models so why they dont learn from them and dont implement corrections on new models.

It would be good to receive some official formal notification from UMi themselves that they are aware of at least some of the 'bugs' which have been mentioned in this thread, that they are actually working on them and then advise us which ones will be 'fixed' in the next update... whenever that will be?

This might then help to restore some confidence in this phone, which might possibly then be a success!

Im very despleased with the overall support and quality of the products...

UMI SUPER to me is more of a fake phone then anything else...

- Fake Sony Battery (only the cells are sony?... but are they?).
- Fake Gorilla Glass 2... This screen is a joke... no scratch protection at all
- Horrible Camera calibration and function... This is a shame even for Panasonic for give their name on this product
- Non existant Support (where are the explanations of UMI to the community).
- Way too much problems with Sharp Screen... (Leaks, Burn ins, white bars, lack of back light uniformity)
- Tochscreen is also a hit and miss... Not very accurate
- FingerScanner is also not very accurate and slow to wake up the smartphone

Later this next week i will wait to see if there is any new update or if i ask the full refund of this product, and forget that i ever purchase such a Marketing Bullshit product!

@menirules The problem isn't worrying about the update it's that we all paid for $200 phones and instead were all made unpaid BETA testers for a faulty product. If everyone invoiced UMI for the hours they owe us for BETA testing their latest product they would likely go bankrupt!!!

Totally legit standpoint, that I fully agree with.

Of course, there are bugs and issues that need to be worked on by UMI and I'm almost sure UMI's devs are doing just this in the background.
But you didn't pay 500-800€ for this phone. You paid 180€! For this money build quality and specs are top notch nevertheless (admitted, the software is immature).

Everyone schould remember this, before spamming the forum on a daily basis with complains and issues that are already known.


In my perception, UMI staff, e.g. bencebacsi, did take notice of the reported issues. But have a look at this forum: there are like 10 threads on exactly the same issue! Wtf... Why don't people use the search function or invest some time in scanning the forum for their issue before opening another thread?..

1. Re flash your phone with the latest OTA
2. have you synced your google account to your phone with contacts ?
3. change your keyboard to Swift keyboard and make sure your language is set to the correct country i.e. English Uk or USA.
4.Camera is fine for many people, try using a 3rd party app called CameraMX from the playstore it's a lot better then the stock.
5. battery works fine on the latest OTA
6.The latest OTA will allow you to change the button functions.

1. Many people are reporting this, I am already on the latest version I don't think flashing it again will make any difference.
2. All accounts are synced and chosen to be displayed.
3. Prefer using Google Keyboard, never had this issue on other phones.
4. Not really, did you install the latest OTA? Pictures are so dark and worse than before.
5. Battery is better than before however still losing lot of charge when the phone is idling.
6.Which OTA? 20160616? Doesn't allow you to change home button function.

Many people are reporting crashing google now ? - I haven't seen any reports on the forum.
If your contacts are synced i have no idea why you are unable to show your contacts on your phone.. its a setting not a software issue.
Would you try a different keyboard to see if its just google keyboard causing you problems ?
Photos look fine after the update, i have seen other posts on this though maybe add to the thread with your concerns

Yes.

Have you tried going to settings>accounts>google acocunt

select your email address where you have all your contacts synced up to and then try to re-sync the account ie. move the slider to off then back on again.

It sounds like your phone is not syncing with google acocunt to retrieve your contacts.

Regarding your comments, I have only 2 issues with SUPER.

1) Camera - not rly good performance i hope it will get better with next update. Even with good light it is grainy and after this new OTA it is pretty dark (even with CameraMX)
2) Battery - for 4000 mAh battery it drain too fast, my UMI Iron lasted 2x longer with 3000 mAh battery and about same usage. (i wonder what is the point to have kinda fat and heavy phone compared to UMI Iron if it last just 1 day of moderate usage?)

If you fix these two things I will be happy with this phone. Build quality is great and I love using it with VR Box.
