Broken screens issue

I am aware just from a basic search that the breaking of screens on the UMi Super is an obvious issue for many people - my one cracked after a drop from the height of all of one foot, and it was in a full cover case too.
This is clearly an issue with the build of the phone and / or the screen. Has anything been done to address this or any recourse made for those of us with broken screens (hopeful, I know!).
With the costs in the UK for repair at around £80 (the best I could find at the moment) I have effectively wasted £135 for a phone that lasted a month.
