1) Root your Umi Plus
2) Download File Browser or any Root Explorer app
3) Navigate to /system/usr/keylayout
4) Open in text editor this file ---> Generic.kl
5) Search for key 139, and replace MENU with "APP_SWITCH"
6) Do the same on the files qwerty.kl and mtk-kpd.kl
7) Reboot your Umi Plus
8) Enjoy ;-)

Or DON'T ROOT.. Just get the app 'Buttons Remapper'.

Does the work perfectly without root. You can change any button to anyone you wish to.

Pretty much simpler and official (Google) solution is here: http://community.umidigi.com/thread-3289-1-1.html
Please try to avoid to modify the system of your phone by hacking it.

I have the UMI plus & I can't get either method to work. Has anyone managed this on the Umi PLUS?

...

I added each model to the list of supported devices after testing. If you've upgraded to Android 7.0, you might need to turn off and on again the Switch Access feature to make it work.

Still no luck, restarted & tried to set the hardware buttons back to the stock android, Left = back, right = recent apps. I have tried both methods, using apps (remapper etc) & also via Accessibility but they remain as shipped.

Why has Umi done this, seems like a bizarre move to change the recent app button to Menu settings???

Then your buttons work in a reversed order and the Switch Access cannot handle that. Go to 'Settings --> Buttons', change to Virtual buttons and choose the 'square - circle - triangle' navigationbar type. Then you can change back to the physical buttons and your Switch Access setting will work.

Ah, ok so that worked & now the hardware buttons are: left = recent apps, right = back. But when I try & switch them I still cant get the right button to be recent apps.
