Hello guys,

My name is Paolo and starting from today I am a new UMI user.
I bought an UMI Plus E and I received it today, and everything was as expected.
Nothing to say about the quality of the phone, it is really a very good device but there is something that really makes me upset.
Indeed I am experiencing some troubles with the display, which is not rendering correctly icons and texts.. Everyting looks like it is "pixelated" and this kind of effect is continuously refreshing making every text almost unreadable.

I think it is something related to a software problem, because sometimes the screen renders pages correctly, and also when I experience the "squared noise disturb" if I scroll the page a couple of times then it displays fine.

Is there anyone of you with an UMI PLUS E experiencing the same troubles or do I am the only (lucky) one?!

If so, I would like to know if UMI is aware about this trouble and if it is working to fix it because this way the phone is really unusless.
I also updated the firmware to the last version avaiable (v3 20161217) but nothing changed.

Please, any feedback concerning a way to fix it will be very appreciated

Thank you in advance for the time you will dedicate to my request
Paolo

Edited by ptuku at 2016-12-29 23:56 \n\nHello bencebacsi,

thank you for your support, it is great to have that collaboration!

Today I received the OTA update and installed it on my phone. I also performed a factory reset from settings > backup and restore to perform a clean installation, but nothing changed, the noise pixelated effect is still there..

With a picture the problem wouldn't be that visible but it is impossible to upload video here so I will take some pictures for you.

Also, least but not last, trying to perform an hard reset with the volume up and the power button, I receive a black screen with a "no command" line, so I really think there is definitely something to go further to figure it out

Thank you, really, for all your support and cooperation. It sounds great to me.
Paolo

edit - it looks like the image uploader doesn't work, or maybe I am doing something wrong, anyway I leave you the links were I uploaded some pictures:

Please do factory reset. Settings - backup and reset - factory data reset.
If this not help please flash phone with SPFT. Here you will get ROM, SPFT and drivers

And from here basic instruction for flashing with SPFT

Hello MarcinP,

first of all thank you for your fast reply, I appreciate it!
Unfortunately I already performed a factory reset twice, but nothing changed..
As par the option to flash the phone with SPFT is that something that possibly wastes the warranty? Because I don't want to move for an extreme solution at this stage.
Also, do you know if there is a way to performe an hard reset with a button combo? (for ex. holding the power button for 6 sec and then switching up and down volume, turning on your left foot and jumping twice) because with the factory data reset I noticed that the firmware update I made wasn't removed, while i supposed it to be cleaned by the data reset..

Many thanks in advance for your patience

Hi
Thanks for nice joke.
If you read correctly reseller warranty roles you will see that any updates void warranty. Conclusion is don't say that you updated phone. That is all.
Factory reset is removing all data from phone and coming  back to factory settings.
Factory reset doesn't removing firmware updates. FOTA updates are small repairing patches for main firmware.
To come back to any previous firmware you need use SPFT and ROM file.

And hard reset is only by holding power button until phone switch off (around 10-15 seconds) but this is doing nothing only switching off phone.

Hi Paolo,

Please download and install the latest (V3.01_20161227) FOTA update and let's see what happens. If your issue doesn't get resolved, please attach a photo here, that shows your "pixelated" screen.

Sincerely,
Ben

Hi MarcinP,

thank you for all the information!
Actually I am in touch with UMI team throught the channel were I bought the device, and they asked me to update the firmware to the last version, so I hope they know they asked me something that will void warranty!

Coming back to your precious support, I had a look to the links you sent me in the previous post, and I saw that the procedure is quite hard for a newbie - as I am - and I would like to leave it as the very last option because I am scared from doing something wrong and find myself with a 5.5" paperweight, despite it would be a very cool one

Also, I am actually working on a Mac and I saw that I need to be on a windows environment to run SPFT, is it right? If so, could you please be so kind to show me another way to move on, cause actually my windows pc is not available and on this mac I don't have enought space to run a partition with bootcamp..

Thank you MarcinP, I owe you a couple of drinks if you help me fixing this issue!

Hi MarcinP,

thank you for all the information!

Hi
Currently we don't have OTA zip file available for any umi plus E update.
To fix your problem only you need re-flash your system to do this you need use SPFT. Of course while you doing re-flash you can and I would recommend update to latest available firmware.
As I am not using Mac system so I can't confirm that SPFT will work but by my experience SPFT is only compatible with Windows.
If there is any driver fault in your device we can't fix this with update that why you need SPFT.

Edited by ptuku at 2016-12-31 01:27 \n\nHi MarcinP,

once again, let me express my huge thanks for your cooperation and courtesy.
Yesterday, after the update to the last firmware I started to experience some other problems, such as unexpected reboots, apps that suddenly close, gps losing the signal every 2/3" and the touch is really less sensitive, but I know UMI team is working hard on that, to fix all the bugs.
Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, the "resect to factory data" doesn't work for me, and I really think the only option would be to flash the phone and perform a clean install, but I need to wait a bit because I am actually upgrading my windows machine, and it wont be ready before 3/4 Jan.

I hope before that there will be some other firmware update, but I know we are in a holiday period, so I understand everything moves a bit slower..

Anyway, just in case I find a windows pc to use earlier, is there any advice about windows version compatibility to run SPFT ( f.e. at least windows 7 is required, or something like that) ?
And also, sorry if I ask because I know you answered to this question before, but I really appreciate your help, do you know if there's any SPFT guide "beginner proof" that I can follow to run the procedure without risking to make a mess, or can you tell me if there's any "restore" way in case I do something wrong?

Thank you, really, for helping me figuring it out
wish you a great day

Paolo

edit: I am trying to download the rar file (20161213_g9v57_kw.......) from the link you indicated, but for some reasons the download stops around 189 Mb, saying " Failed - Server unreachable "
I tried to download the file with different browsers but it stops always at the same point
