Hello,

I have my Umi Super for about 1 week now. It is a nice phone and great UI; however this beauty has big big issues with the GPS signal: It keeps loosing signal and/or the GPS position is not accurate like for 1Km difference. I've been testing it with Sygic and Google Maps and there's no way the phone will work properly.
The GPS signal keeps ''jumping'' from one place to another, but mostly it will not get any signal at all. I've been looking into other forums and it seems to be a batch production error that cannot be fixed remotely or with an FOTA/OTA.
What can UMI do in theis case for consumers like me? I've been using HTC phone like for 6 years and this is my first UMI phone. I just hope the UMI company doesn't dissapoint me (us) on this issue.
PLEASE HELP!

This is beyond a joke and shame that  GPS and 4G signals are so terrible. Basically, there is no way you can us any sat nav or even google maps as gps signal is never locked. It gets a little bit better when phone protection is removed. But that's not the way other phone work.
Also 4G and 3G in UK is awful. I can get 10x higher speeds on the same sim card but on different phone in the same place. My other phone can have 5 bar 4G signal and UMI only get average 3G.
It's a good looking and fast phone but above issues make the phone useless.

You're not alone. Another one with the GPS Problems. I do get a fix - but it's just inaccurate, jumping around and often just looses the signal. Really annoying and just not usable for navigation.
Tried already everything. Full reset and even the rebuilding of the GPS from the developer mode. Nothing could help.

It's really sad that UMI don't want to (or just can't?) fix the problem. Instead they announce new phones and their marketing is doing big promises. I highly doubt we'll see another OTA for the Super. They are always focusing on releasing new phones instead of fixing the broken ones they've already sold.
For me, @Relany, it's just ridiculous to consider buying another phone from this company as long as they keep on handling problems like they do it now.

For me the Super was the first and last phone of this company, if they dont fix the problems everyone here is talking about. And also I won't recommend them to anyone, which is really sad - because the Super isn't a bad phone. It's just the problems it has and the company doesent seem to care about.

Okay. I understand. Question: are the 2 for GPS plus and minus? If I put a piece of metall there, what should that piece of matall connect? I can not see what it should touch. How about the GSM side? Do you have 2 conectors on the shell or only one?

UMI Super MTK SOI GPS fix method(no root)

Thanks @SUIKA.
The magnetometer/compass functions of my UMI PLUS were totally dead, with compass arrow stuck.
After setting "Engineer Mode MTK" to your settings and restarting the phone, IT WORKS!

Hi Infobitas, can you eventually post a picture or two of the phone with the indication of which contacts you've modified? This way we can all try out your solution and see if the GPS improves. I have a MAX, but basically the phone is the same as the SUPER....

Thanks!!!

I se the problem with poor GPS signal in UMI phones are bad/cheap GPS sensors. Because no software update can resolve this.

The price of postage from me to China is ca. $100. It is half price of phone.
So I must mobile repair itself. :/

This is an extremely bad news. If the problem with GPS is batch production error than UMI should replace devices for users with defective GPS.

Edited by UmiIronPro2015 at 2016-6-27 18:58 \n\n Edited by UmiIronPro2015 at 2016-6-27 18:56 \n\nThe antennas problems with Umi is commom to all versions, included GPS, 4G and WI FI. The problem is very simple to solve. The problem is that the WI fi , 4G and GPL antennas are on the internal mother board plastic cover inside Umi.

You need to remove 1st cover, then this cover and you will see pieces of metal that are not enought up to touch the hardware connections of wi fi, 4g and Gps in the mother board, so once you close this cover you will see this pieces of metal dont touch it or stay only very close to it.

With an precision knife like X-act or other you need to pull this pieces of metal a little up on a way that they touch the hardware once you close it.

After this my GPs started worked more faster and accuratly then ever and 4G internet speed and ping goes to the roof . Amazing !

I have here some you tube videos explain how to open this cellphones and solving the antenna problem as well in a Umi model . In the side of the hardware motherboard it is written Gps . . .

https://youtu.be/TugAXj34JNE

And this one to see how to "Teardown" them ;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvEF9RToYLg
Here you can see  a picture where the antenas are located and where the respective hardware that should touch the antennas are located as well!

Why should u tear down ur own phone and lose waranty instead your reseller must fix it if its hardware bug. I am still waiting if its a firmware thing that can be fixed with a update otherwise the phone is going back to the seller.

Because in a normal proceedment they will send you another phone because they will not found any defective parts on the first one hardware motherboard. But then dont figure out that is the antenas that dont touch the hardware . . oololololo

They will send you another phone with same problem. lolololo

If someone could do a vid on how to do this for the UMI super that would be great because not to keen on opening it up without knowing what to expect and what to be careful about. But I agree with the people saying that paying 180-219€ depending on when/where you brought it to then go having to open up the phone yourself to fix it is kinda dumb.
