Hi!

Sorry for the long text, just wanted to make it really clear.

So after two weeks of front and back with UMI and other people on this forum about the non working microphone on some phones during phonecalls
i have come to a solution. It's 100% a hardware error i can confirm.

If you open the phone where the microphone is located you will find a black rubber/plastic piece infron of the microphone. This is the problem.
For thoose of us having a problme with the microphone during phonecalls, it's beacuse this peice is disoriented and in some cases(like mine) totaly blocks the sound.
For some people it's not totaly disoriented and those can maybe solve it with changing the microphone settings with an app llike MTK engenering.

IF this dont help you, im sorry to say you have to send the phone back OR open it urselves and fix it (will void your right to send it back or fix it in the future).

I did open it and fixed the problem by moving the black rubber/plastic piece to not block the microphone and it worked. I wont lie, it was not easy or funny to do
if u never opened a phone before. I also managed to damage my back cover for being stupid. If you do it without pulling to hard like me should be fine, even tho
i recommend you send it back and let them fix it.

I hope this helps you guys. And UMI, you should tell us all this instead of me having to do it.

Last thin if any from UMI see this,
can you please contact me so i can buy a new backcover since mine dont look that nice anymore.
Just the backpiece made of aluminium. I can pay.

Mic problem sorted thanks to this thread and a double check of the positioning of the small black rubber piece that directs the sound to the Mic pick up via this video  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvEF9RToYLg

The part of the YouTube video of interest is about 8 minutes in and should reassure you that you will not be damaging anything as you are only touching rubber and no circuits!

While making a call to a friend (to check the sound as I moved it) I inserted a paperclip into the hole in the Mic black rubber, but only by 2mm or so and with light pressure moved it about slightly. You will know instantly when you have it right.

Hope this helps some of you!

Other than that.... What a Fantastic Phone for the price

I'm glad you got it sorted but seriously - how did you manage to damage the back casing?

I took mine off because I had extSD card issues and it was the easiest fixed case I've ever removed - secured only by 6 small cross-head screws.

Telling people it's difficult to remove the back cover is wrong IMO because IT ABSOLUTELY IS NOT!!

So long as you have the right tools (and who would be stupid enough to attempt to mess about with their phone if they haven't?) it is a very simple job indeed.  Once the screws are all removed it lifts right off.

The back cover thing was my fault, managed to bend it here the sim/sdcardholder is placed  Post time 2015-9-23 02:53
Fixing the mic is not just about removing the back case... you have to remove the bottom part of the phone which is the tricky part where you could fuck things up. That was not easy.  Post time 2015-9-23 02:53

So you tried to get the cover off the back without removing the sim tray first?

There's probably a lesson in there for everyone, something like:

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE YOUR SIM TRAY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO TAKE OFF THE BACK CASING!

That should work

To be correct, it tried to put the cover back without removing the sim ray :) Now help me contact somebody to buy a new back cover  Post time 2015-9-23 23:32

Ordered through Aliexpress (Fantacy store) just been told there is delay as they had to send back a batch to Umi due to "quality problem", I wonder if this is the same issue? Beginning to question whether a cheap Chinese phone is such a good idea after all...

Better mate, it's a good phone i like it. Better that you get one with a working sound etc. And hopefully next update will fix the rest  Post time 2015-9-23 23:33
