First of all no, UMi doesn't try to reduce the production costs with cheap parts. You hardly can find any kind of capacitive touch screen devices, that have never faced the ghost touch issue. The most expensive models are not different.
Some examples:

So it sometimes happens and it's a hardware related issue of course, or all handsets would be affected.
To perform a low level test on the touch panel, I suggest you to boot your phone into Factory Mode by powering it on with the volume down button keeped pressed. Go to Item Test --> Touch Panel amd run both the CTP and FreeMode tests. If you you experience ghost touches even in factory mode, then your touch panel should be repaired or replaced. If no issues in factory mode, under Android you can try to tweak the touch panel with SGS Touchscreen Booster by reducing the touch sensitivity (higher value) or decresing the minimum motion (higher value).
Don't expect that, a software update will fix the behavior of your non-standard quality touch panel. It might happen or not but it's impossible to process it wit intention.
If no one of the solutions mentioned in this thread can fix your touch screen, that's better to contact your seller and request your phone to be repaired or replaced.
