good questions and points raised syanide

its plain and obvious now that UMI SUPER is not stock android, it does have its own features added. it is disappointing to see it advertised like this = misleading customers.

anyway moving on

ben - please answer previous question about umi stand on security patches

but also could we get some idea regarding 6.0.01 - is this going to be rolled out soon?

I don't think any phone released today is pure stock android, as pointed out the manufacturers of the SOC have influence on the drivers for the android platform to work correctly. On the plus side UMI does have the tools to flash what ever ROM you desire.

Thank you for that clarification as I thought I was going mad! i also need to have a little beef wit ...

I'd say so! Security updates are important! as they patch any system vulnerabilities that may come to light, don't forget that when Google send out a security update they issue an update log listing all vulnerabilities that are patched meaning they are in effect made public knowledge!

I don't understand the Point of this discussion.
In the specs of the phone, it's written that it comes with Android 6.  It seems that rumors have spread the info that the ROM is Stock Android, but i don't find this info on UMI site.
All i know, having an UMI Touch and waiting for a Super, that the ROM on UMI's device is quite naked (free from bloatware and from some preinstalled Google Services).  Not having a Nexus, i can't compare but i'm nearly sure that it's not stock Android.

It's realy a bit pointless to compare the update policy of the Nexus, the only devices reveiving live updates on time, with other manufactures.  More than 90% of Android devices aren't even on Android 6.  Big companies, most of the time, only update their top ranged devices and if they do they need 3 to 6 months for it.  Yesterday i held a S5 Mini in my Hands with 4.4.

I understand the remarks about security updates but ... welcome in the Android world.  That was, is and maybe will always be its greatest flaw.

Meanwhile UMI gives you a midrange device with nice specs @ low Budget Price with a relative actual operating system - which by the way works very good for these specs.  If this is not enough for you, than simply keep your 500+$ device. Hoping that a 200$ device excells a 500$ device is an Illusion.  You always get for your money, but with UMI you receive more than others for the same price, that's all.

Just my 2 cents but the point is, i feel, that people are being led to believe they are getting something when they're not. All the info I have found has stated a clean android OS on this phone (ie a nexus type) which is something that caught my attention. I respect there has to be some tinkering to make an OS work on a device but if it is something that have been adapted by Umi (simialr to touchwiz interface or MIUI interface) it ceases to be 'stock android' and becomes a 'stock rom'. Really if its is 'stock android' it should be labled as AOSP and if not it should be labled as 'stock ROM'. So is this an AOSP OS or a Umi modified OS, and if so how modified?

I am happy to sort of conceded the point to be fair. It's a valid point made by jackdierippe - if i want the pure google experience, I should stick with a Nexus - which I may go back to, depending on how the updates come along on this.
However, I do believe that the Security Patches should not be considered a luxury and I think I am entitled to expect them - i understand 6.0.1 or even 7.0 might be a 'luxury', but not the security patches.

(also, on another point - if i use Rootjoy, will rooting invalidate my warranty?)

I received the Super yesterday, and for my big surprise must see that the Android OS is not the same than the UMI Touch.
UMI Touch has no Gmail app for example and other Google standard app are missing (what i liked very much). The UMI Touch had no security level in settings.  The app drawer was vertical in Touch, on Super it's horizontal.  There are optical differences and funtion differences like the the buttons for example.
The Super Rom is definitively not as naked as the Touch's Rom.
