I was suffering with overly loud minimum volume and heavy distortion.
The following (copied from a UMI Iron post) has made the minimum volume much lower and has greatly increased the quality of audio through the headphones.
Dial *#*#3646633#*#*
(This enters MTK Engineering Mode - Can also be done via an app)
Go to Engineering Mode -> Hardware Testing -> Audio -> Headset Mode.
Change Sip to Media.
After this, set the Value and Max Vol to the following:
A big thank you for this post, it's just what i want.
Can we do the same for the headphone with a call ? because on the minimum level, the tuuuut (before a call) for me is more like TUUUUUUUTTTT !!!!!! It's too loud my sensitive ears...

The only time I now hear a feint crackling is on 1-2 songs out of the 100s I've got and it's only present when the volume and bass boost are at 100%
