As I could not find any further information on the software release plans for the F1 Play: do you plan to support and provide also Android Q for this device once released? As vendor you probably have already access to the latest release candidate as stated here https://developer.android.com/preview/overview#timeline
This would be really great and appreciated!!!

Es ist zwar schön das es mal ein Update gab, leider aber immer noch die sicherheitsupdates vom Januar 2019, schade umidigi nicht auf solche mal eingeht, mittlerweile ist schon Juli.

I dared contacting the UMIDIGI support asking for the latest Android Security updates.

Oh well, this didn't go down so great... Here's what I got as an answer:

Ben commented:

Hi,

We release security patch updates only if a vulnerability gets discovered. By the way, Google never informs us about upcoming security patch updates and they never assist us to apply them. Please don’t believe everything.

Please be patient and trust our engineers will do their best to solve every vulnerability we detect. That list of vulnerabilities do not affect our phones, any security issues were never discovered in our phones' system.

You can find all updates here: https://community.umidigi.com/fo ... display&fid=125

Please note, only high-end models of some world brands enjoy 3-years long support but UMIDIGI do not manufacture high-end devices. We release 30 new models in 3 years and that’s physically not possible to keep so many devices updated.

Thank you for contacting us and have a nice day!

Ben changed the status to Done.

Ben resolved this as Won't Do.

In simple terms "Ah no! We're too busy producing more and more models, we surely don't want to waste time and money into keeping them up to date. If your phone is outdated, buy a new one from us"

It's not working like that, UMIDIGI. If you treat your customers this way, they won't buy another phone from you. There's plenty of competition with similar products at similar prices.

A shame really.

wow, just wow!
We release security patch updates only if a vulnerability gets discovered. By the way, Google never informs us about upcoming security patch updates and they never assist us to apply them.

A new security patch is released the first Monday of EVERY month, there, they've been informed.

They should focus on firmware and make the update system download a generic system image from ASOP

Does anybody else have trouble using NFC for shared WiFi settings? It used to be working in the version 2019-05-22 but it does not work anymore in the latest version 2019-07-05.

Using the app "NFC Tools" the phone writes a correct record to the NFC chip. It can be read by other phones (tested with Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4) but not by the F1 Play itself. When I read the NFC chip it says "New tag detected 'application/vnd.wfa.wsc'". It seems the core functionality interpreting this data type is missing or not working.

When I try to write the WiFi connection data by going to Settings > Network and WiFi > and long-press the network to share (must not be connected currently), then choose "Share network to NFC", I am asked to enter the WiFi password. Although I enter the correct password, the phone says it's incorrect and denies writing the tag.

I think it's a good day to write to tech support once again...

@bencebacsi You could start with blocking russian IP's entirely and making it harder to register as a new user to keep the spam bots out. They're taking over the entire forum posting erection pill ads  Post time 2019-9-30 19:33
