Custom ROMs?

Good day all,

I'm interested in learning about building my own Custom ROM for the Umidigi F1, but it seems that, even with bootloader unlocked and root granted, certain parts of the core files needed are not accessible. I may be doing something wrong, though!

Anyways, does Umidigi have a stance on users replacing the stock firmware/OS? Doing so most likely voids warranty, but how supportive is the company of allowing people to develop/install custom ROMs?

I too would love to see a Custom Rom Community for the Umidigi F1, it is the one thing that is holding the phone back. But, as always the Mediatek processor is not as open as Snapdragon series and hinders fast and open implementation of custom ROMs. Hopefully, Umidigi can fix/help in that respect.

I'm looking for help… my Umidigi F1 doesn't quick charge. I contacted Umidigi and their answer is not understandable for me. Their response is "Dear friend, It is so sorry for your inconvenience. And you are suggested to connect this device to computer,and adjust to File Transfer.Then you need disconnect about computer, try to charge this device through plug again. Looking forward to your response." I'm not sure what to do, please, can you explain? Thanks. Regards.

Sure. What they mean is you need to first enable Developer Options.

1.Do this by going to System, Advanced, About Phone, then press your finger on the area titled Build Number several times until it tells you that you are a developer.

2. From there, back out to System again and you should see a new option called Developer options. Go there and scroll down. Under Networking, there should be an option for Default USB configuration; press this and select File Transfer.

3. It looks like they're asking you to verify and connect your phone to a computer such that your computer can browse the contents of the phone. Once this is done, they seem to suggest that you disconnect your phone and try charging from the given USB charger through the wall again.

Anyway, attempting to install GSIs with TWRP will fail because TWRP cannot install to the system partition. Does anyone know of a way to install to the system partition?

Dude, not cool. I can't trust that since it was posted on April 1st...

In all seriousness, I will have to give this a try. The stock firmware/OS is something I can live with, but I'd prefer to have better RAM management because apps are still evacuated too quickly.

Tested it out and got it to work. The only thing wrong with it is that it won't get a signal with Verizon Wireless (in the USA), whereas before I could get 4G LTE and calls/text.

APN settings are automatically detected, yet some are missing. The settings are also greyed out, preventing me from modifying them.
