Front Speaker not working

Ok so my brand new phone arrived , i did a OTA update all fine and dandy untill i receive a call , phone rings i hear it and answer call , nothing , no sound , this is strange , so i press handsfree and i can hear whos calling me . i think the front speaker on my phone isnt working. i tried using regular calls and using skypes echo test and nothing , pretty sure my frontspeak (the speaker where your ear goes) isnt working.
Am i doing something wrong ? is there a way i can test to confirm before sending it back ?
