Strange keyboard/screen issue

I've been using my new UMI Super for a few days and all was fine. I had installed SwiftKey keyboard to use instead of the stock keyboard. A few days ago though one of the long key press keys stopped working in the sense the chosen key stopped being typed on the screen (in message, email etc). Specifically, the period/dot key. In SwiftKey when the period/dot is pressed it brings up a few other key options (such as ! , ?) and then one of those can be selected. I thought it was an issue with SwiftKey so installed Google keyboard and started to use that. However that has the same issue on the period/dot key long press. All the other long key presses work fine (for example long press on M gives the ? correctly). Also, the long key press on the period/dot key works ok in landscape mode! I'm very confused.
