Hi Community,

when i install banking apps such as Visa, i get a warning saying that Rom is rooted and therefore there might security problems.

But when i try to theme phone UI with BusyBox On rails, app says phone needs to be rooted.

I also have tried to flash with RootJoy and it gives me an error message such as the device is not rooted.

Misleading messages, I'm confused. Anybody can help clarify?

Thanks

Hey there,

There isn't a problem with the phone being rooted from the factory or that the boot image file isn't secure.

The problem lies with the way the file is being coded. For banking apps, when it detects that "test keys" are being used instead of "release keys", it would assume that the phone has been tampered with by a third party.

To the UMI forum administrators, please do feedback to your software development unit to change this aspect of their boot image coding so that users are able to use their banking/secure applications.

Note: This has not changed since 20160923 rom OTA version

Dear users,

Please, share the google play store links of some problematic apps. They probably check the root access by an incompatible/wrong method and we should contact their developers to find a solution.

Regards,
Bence

Hi

I have been spending most of the day also trying to solve this issue. I have put the secured boot file on as well and my apps such as last pass are still claiming the phone it rooted and not secure.

This makes the phone pretty much useless to me if I can't use my apps on it.

Please can we have a proper fix for this.

Thanks

Yeah got it, but i get advises from banking apps that phone is rooted, and i get advises that phone  ...

That is correct.

A ROOTED PHONE WILL NOT WORK WITH BANKING APPS i.e. Lloyds bank, HSBC etc etc..

IF YOU REQUIRE APPLICATIONS THAT REQUIRE ROOT THEN YOUR PHONE MUST BE ROOTED.

I honestly dont know how to put this any more strait forward to you.

Yes almost all banking apps do not support rooted phones, they have a built in root authentication that checks all ROM's for root access if it detects root then you will not be able to use their application.

Its a double edged sword.

Edited by syanide at 2016-6-21 21:25 \n\nBeatertech,

I think the point is that this phone is NOT supposed to be rooted out fo the box. I am having the same issue  with NowTv - it thinks my phone is "modified" and so will not work. The same issue with banking app as above.

However, this Bence has confirmed to me that this phone is neither rooted, nor is the bootloader unlocked - and so we should NOT be facing these issues. ie, either the phone is Rooted (in which case the banking apps wont work) or the phoe is NOT rooted, in which case those apps will (or should) work.
The point the gent is making is that the banking app is telling him that his phone is Rooted and then busybox is saying "your phone needs to be rooted" suggesting that it is NOT already rooted. hence the confusion!

(i hope I've not made things worse!!!)

Download root checker off the app store and see if you have root access on your phone.
If your phone is not showing as rooted then i would suggest dropping the developer of the application a note/email.

have you flashed your phone since you had it / not over OTA

I definitely have not touched the firmwar/os at all. I have emailed the developer of Nowtv (Sky)  but its too much of a coincidence that all these apps that check for root think the phone is rooted.

Ill see what they say.

I have a brad new phone for about a week and hve only done the two FOTA that have arrived. I have done nothing else. If the phone is not rooted out of the box, then i do not expect ROOT checker to tell me ihve a rooted device, surely. I am.happy to try, but i will be surprised if it says ROOTED!
