Are there any unofficial / beta / mod ROMs available or in development for the super?
Is anyone working on CynogenMod, Omni, PA (or any others) for the super?
Or is development not possible because of the mediatek processor ??
Also are umi going to update (and continue to update) the official stock ROM to latest android security patches if not that's really poor from UMI and totally ruins the point of a stock android ROM

I agree re: the security Patch updates. I only switched to Umi Super from my Neus 6 because i thought the update experience was going to be the same.

I always thought that in order for a manufacturer to get its devices through Google certification had to now provide security patches inline with googles monthly roll out ?
Looks like I've either miss understood or UMI are non compliant !

Google use the Nexus devices as a development platform, that’s the reason why the Nexus device line will always receive the update first.
Google works closely with the device manufacturers and the hardware manufacturers to write drivers for the SOC to work correctly leading on to the reason why updates are late in other devices that are built using different SOC chipsets.
Personally having updates all the time can be tedious and on a separate note there are many Linux OS systems release updates every quarterly.

Google use the Nexus devices as a development platform ...

Linux is a modular platform,
Meaning elements can be updated / patched separately
This totally negates the need for system wide updates hence Linux not needing to push out system wide patches or updates only LTS release get those

As for your argument that it is tedious to receive regular updates ....I'd hardly call monthly updates tedious nor would I call quarterly updates regular!

Basically what we are asking is,
ARE UMI GOING TO PROVIDE THE SECURITY PATCHES/UPDATES WHEN GOOGLE RELEASE THEM?

ARE THERE  ANY PLANS TO UPDATE THE SUPER TO THE LATEST ANDROID RELEASES 6.0.1 AND UP ?

if not why not ?

Do umi plan to release a dev/beta build other than the stable builds ?
Like xiaomi do with miui ROMs that come with root access already enabled ?

UMI will release the updates when they are available undoubtedly .. most likely region specific OTA patch updates.

Pretty sure when UMI get bigger they will have a dedicated DEV team to release builds for their UMI ROM just like Oneplus did a few years back prior to the launch of OPO2

Does umi share the kernel source with us ? Thats an important questions to open it for custom roms.

That's what I was trying to get at !I can't find any kernel sources for any UMI devices on here or anywhere on the net!

So I'm guessing that kills any chance of porting any ROM to or developing any ROM for the super!

Which is a shame because as oneplus proved being open and dev friendly a device / company can thrive !!

Dear users,

Please don't compare apple with pear. Here are some answers in a summarized form.
- UMi phones and updates come out faster than to possibly let enough time for beta testing.
- The kernel sources are held by MediaTek.
- Only new models come with new kernels.
- OnePlus has released only four models in three years, UMi has released much more. That's impossible to give the same level of support by an even smaller team for much more devices. However, you can easier find the model that fits your taste and for a definitely lower price with still higher quality.
- All OnePlus phones are built with Qualcomm processors, not MediaTek.
- UMi always applies the latest security patches issued by Google when releasing a new phone. Later updates solve the discovered practical security issues (if any), not the theoretical ones that have been found in different hardware (driver) environments.
An invulnerable system never exists.

Regards,
Bence
