I used USB OTG Checker from Google Playstore. Does not require rooted phone. Android Version tests ok. It also says that UMI Touch has "USB OTG API".  The app proceeds to test for OTG Signal and says a) to remove OTG Cable and Media, a) then to connect OTG Cable  c) then to add Media (in my case a 32GB memory stick). Result: "System not detect USB OTG Signal". And of course memory stick is not recognized or read. What to do?

Do you get a system notification (on the toolbar) when you connect an OTG device?
If yes,
1. Format your pen drive to FAT32 file system.
2. Also try to connect a USB mouse.

1. yes, its a 8GB FAT32 and it can be read on my PC
2. its connected via the white USB connection cable that was part of the delivery and then a female/female USB adapter like this one (http://www.amazon.com/Generic-Ty ... b+female+to+female.
3. is that wrong ? Is the pin config of OTG CABLE different ? Then this is the reason for the problem.
4. no there is no notification on the device.

Do I have to buy a proper OTG cable like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Sa ... sb+female+to+female

I found the reason:   MUST use a proper OTG Cable, cannot use a female/female adapter. OTG Cable  I bought is from Logitech and cost about 2 USD. With it external memory card is perfectly recognized

Or maybe you can use this. I do and it's very handy.

Very good idea. Thanks for the hint-
