The difference between Normal and Sports mode is the threshold of raising CPU clock speeds and activating more CPU cores.
In Normal mode, CPU load must be +50% before an extra CPU core is activated, and clock speeds are conservatively low to help reduce power consumption. In Sports mode, CPU is less governed and clock speeds are increased higher, plus more cores are activated sooner.
There are noticeable differences in day-to-day performance between Normal and Sports; app launching and switching is faster, less lag is observed during web browsing. Games and other CPU-demanding tasks WILL NOT BE AFFECTED, because the CPU will automatically reach its required maximum clock speed for those tasks. It's quite literally all to do with squeezing the maximum battery life at the expense of a little lag. |
