Hi there. As far as I'm aware, MediaTek does not disclose the source and as per their policy, UMI does not have it. What do you need it for anyway?

Sidenote: I'm trying to compile CWM recovery from source for the newest ROM for UMI Rome X. The latest TWRP does not work new boot.img (kernel) needs to be used but I don't need the source.

Agreed but what can we do? I'm an android developer and I've recently gotten this phone and I want to do some tinkering. Resources out there for this phone are very scarce and I'm trying to see if anyone has compiled the latest recovery for version 3.05, which if not, then I'll have to do it. There are also custom ROMS (2) which I haven't tried because of the lack of kernel source and which makes me resort to compiling from CWM source. Do you have a custom recovery working? I'd be grateful if you could share, even though I'll only spend time on until tomorrow, before I compile it myself. May I ask, what you are trying to do? New kernel?

You can do quiet a lot. You can get the FSF to file a class action lawsuit against UMi, and force them to either release the source or stop using Linux.

UMI? MediaTek don't release the source - UMI just uses their kernels.

Dude, the MUST release them. It's not a question if they want to or not, they have to do it.

I know. Anyway, neither me or you? are in the mood for lawsuits. Do you want to make a new kernel?

If I get a official "NO" I'll turn to the FSF.

Search the other threads for UMi Rome X. I don't have time now but I'm 100% sure an official UMI representative said they won't disclose it.
