This is the SP Flash Tool + downloadable OTA release of the
V1.01_20160923 firmware
for UMI MAX

Flash tool operation is recommended for experienced users only. Do not use it if you cannot understand the whole process!
UMI MAX receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again.

Changelog:
- New, advanced stock camera app with Pro mode
- Improved camera performance
- New touch screen driver
- Improved fingerprint sensor performance
- Other minor bug fixes

Resources for SPFT:

Flashtool tutorials: UMI Forum or androidxda guide or YouTube guide (you can google a lot of other solutions and guides)

ROM: 20160923_c239v55_kw_u11.rar  - Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6755_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other elements

SPFT: SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1628.rar (use this one instead of the old version linked in the UMI forum guide)

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMI MAX if the standard method doesn't work. It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop.
1. Connect your UMI MAX to USB.
2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.
3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.
4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

Manual (local) OTA update method instructions
1. Copy the downloaded .zip file to either the internal memory or the SD card of your phone
2. Go to Settings --> About phone --> Wireless update
3. Tap the 3-dot menu button at the top right corner and select Local updates
4. Brows for the ...update.zip file and select it
5. Tap Install now, comfirm the process with OK and wait until the process will be finished

Update file for manual OTA update: UMi_MAX_20160923_c239v55_kw_u11_update.zip
Update file with multi-window support: UMi_MAX_20160923_c239v55_kw_u11_multiwindow_update.zip

Optional method (in case if the manual OTA update gets stuck): Install from recovery
You need a microSD card (with at least 4GB capacity) installed in your phone!
  • Copy the ...update.zip file to your SD card
  • Press and hold the volume-up and power buttons together until your phone restarts. It needs about 10 seconds or a little bit less if your phone was already powered off.
  • When your phone is restarted, immediately release the power button but still hold the vol-up button until you see a lying android figure with an exclamation mark in red triangle on its tummy.
  • Press and hold the power and vol-up buttons (in this order) together, then release them to call the recovery menu. Now you can move with the volume buttons and select an item with the power button.
  • Move to ‘Apply update from SD card’ and select it.
  • On the next screen brows for the update file and select it. The updating process will start and needs a few minutes to be finished.
  • After a succcessful installation you can read the ''Install from sdcard complete'' message and the receovery menu is available again.
  • Select 'Reboot system now'. Alternatively you can perform a factory data reset here by choosing 'Wipe data/factory reset'

Hi Bencebacsi!

I'm from Hungary too, and I've got my MAX on monday. I checked the FOTA numerous times since then, but nothing. :-(
I tried with wifi on two different providers at home and at my work, still nothing...

Now I saw the manual OTA update method, but my questions are:
UMi_MAX_20160923_c239v55_kw_u11_update.zip
is only 38.7Mb while the previously linked
20160923_c239v55_kw_u11.rar
is 840Mb.
Why is the big difference in the sizes?
And we will be get the FOTA updates later? It's just an isolated problems with missing update?
Thanks!

Dear Users,

The availability of this update is not location dependent and only a few of you can't access it. Unfortunately, we cannot investigate such cases while we also cannot find any issues about our FOTA server. Already thousands of users all over the world were able to download and install this update.
For those who still have problems, I've shared the OTA update file here with basic installation instructions. So, even if you're not able to download it wireless, now you already have two simple options to download and install this update manually.

Hi, i tried to install both update-files on my umi max manually. In both cases booted the android system with old version. Why?  Post time 2016-10-20 19:22

It is quite unbelievable that you keep building new phones and obviously have less than settler software development team.

So far I can't update my shiny new UMI Super either via OTA or using the other methods. Nothings seem to be working and the advice we keep getting that it is user problems.

It is without any doubt UMI problem and they must do something serious to solve it. OTA must work out of the box and not via those million method that none of them seem to be working anyway.

I think, UMI has misconfigured something... The biggest problem is that, they don't care about it.

edit: manually updated with SPFT....

With 0810 and 0819 the fingerprint reader works very well. With the 0923 very uncertain. (I have tried 0923 with SPFT, and with FOTA from 0819 to 0923.) Very often when I push the power button (to lock the screen), it is buzzing, after this it is very hard or impossible to unlock the screen by fingerprint.

Hi,

I also had the 0810 rom, so the update.zip, provided by bencebacsi did not work.

I had to use SPFT.  The only bit I struggled with was the drivers.  I have Windows10 64bit, and i followed every instruction, but SPFT would not recognise the phone.  In the end, I came across someone saying that it might work if connected to a USB 2 port.  I switched to a different laptop, with the same OS, and USB 2 ports.  I installed just the MediaTek drivers provided (i.e., Mediatek_Driver_Auto_Installer_1.1352.00.rar). Before doing this, you have to disable the digital driver signature verification! Make sure that your phone is off, and not connected.  I then installed the drivers by opening a Command Prompt, as an Administrator, and after navigating to the location of the extracted drivers, I ran the Mediatek-Drivers-Install.bat, via the command line.  I accepted the prompts to install the drivers, and as it was running I connected my phone.  It seemed to continue installing another driver, and then I turned on the phone, for it to pick up the requirement for further drivers.  Once everything had been installed and the command had come to an end, I turned off the phone and disconnected it from the PC.

I then started up SPFT, and pointed it to the scatter file, in the extracted files, from the supplied rom (i.e., 20160923_c239v55_kw_u11.rar). With the phone off and disconnected, I click the Download button in SPFT.  A few seconds later I connected the phone, but did not turn it on.  SPFT started the download.

Having completed the Download, I disconnected the phone, and tried to wipe that cache partition, following the instructions here:

UMI Forum

I tried to do this but found that if I started the phone, whilst holding vol-down and power (for 20 seconds), it takes me to the Factory Mode menu, with the following options:
Auto Test
Manual Test
Item Test
Test Report
Debug Test
Clear eMMC
Version
Reboot

I don't think this is the correct menu, and although the volume keys move back and forth through the menu, I cannot work out what key is to select anything!  I could only hold in the power button, until it turned itself off.

Instead I tried holding the vol-up and power keys (for 20 seconds).  When I let go of them, I get the picture of the Android laying down, with a red warning triangle positioned over its chest.   I believe this is how I am meant to get to the Recovery Menu, but again cannot work out what buttons/keys I am supposed to press to get to it.

For now, I can start the phone and use it.  The rom did install correctly.  I just can't get to the recovery mode, to wipe the cache partition.

Any Ideas?

Just did the update here in Canada. It was a 200+MB update. Had to redo my launcher screen. The 'app ...

G-Sensor recalibration in Settings->Display resolved the autorotation issue for me. So outside of these few things having to be redone I am back up and running.

Well, I can confirm that, it's available in Hungary since yesterday, so that few hundreds of kilometers shouldn't be a barrier. ;)
Try to reboot your phone and connect to a wifi router.

Hi bencebacsi,

Awesome that the touchscreen issues will be solved with this update. Still have some questions about the ROM:

1. I think you mentioned somewhere on the forum that the UMI Max and UMI Super both use the same ROM, only the pre-loader is different. Does this mean that I can flash this ROM to my UMI Super by deselecting the pre-loader in the SP Flash Tool, and it will work?
2. Probably the best to wait until tomorrow, since the update for UMI Super is available tomorrow. However, will that be the OTA or the SPFT version?

thanks!

The Update is not arrived in Germany yet. I think Italy grapped all available Updates, so there`s none left for us ;-)
