I don't understand the Point of this discussion.
In the specs of the phone, it's written that it comes with Android 6.  It seems that rumors have spread the info that the ROM is Stock Android, but i don't find this info on UMI site.
All i know, having an UMI Touch and waiting for a Super, that the ROM on UMI's device is quite naked (free from bloatware and from some preinstalled Google Services).  Not having a Nexus, i can't compare but i'm nearly sure that it's not stock Android.

It's realy a bit pointless to compare the update policy of the Nexus, the only devices reveiving live updates on time, with other manufactures.  More than 90% of Android devices aren't even on Android 6.  Big companies, most of the time, only update their top ranged devices and if they do they need 3 to 6 months for it.  Yesterday i held a S5 Mini in my Hands with 4.4.

I understand the remarks about security updates but ... welcome in the Android world.  That was, is and maybe will always be its greatest flaw.

Meanwhile UMI gives you a midrange device with nice specs @ low Budget Price with a relative actual operating system - which by the way works very good for these specs.  If this is not enough for you, than simply keep your 500+$ device. Hoping that a 200$ device excells a 500$ device is an Illusion.  You always get for your money, but with UMI you receive more than others for the same price, that's all.

Please compare my statement with google searches. Here's a short but clear definition on ahemahem.com:
"Stock ROMs are the ones which come by default in Android phones or tablets. These are customized versions of Android done by mobile companies to make their devices unique in looks and features"
Nexus devices are made in cooperation with Google (not just licensing from Google), so they always gets each update and always as soon as possible. That's the specialty of the Nexus series. Plus the higher price with (mostly) basic features.

Bence

Can you explain what this means please? I though this was STOCK android - so when Google release and update, we get the update. Can you just clarify your comment above please - does that mean we will get 6.0.1 very soon?

Stock means a release issued by the manufacturer of the phone, not by Google. The android core is developed by MediaTek using the resources provided by Google. Then the device manufacturer creates the working release based on MediaTek SDK. So, to release a new Android version needs to get a lot of new licenses and work of paid employees while the benefit is little. The current system is 6.0 but 6.01 is a new system from its core, not just an updated one.

I am not sure I agree with your definition of "STOCK". STOCK usually means as it was intended by Google - ie, untouched by anyone. Even if Mediatech have to make it fit with the phone, there are too many changes away from Google original to still be STOCK. Eg, no standard "Messenger", "Google Play Music", "Chrome" apps, for example. Stock android should have these as standard as part of the OS.

Also, worryingly, Monthly Security Patch updates are only as far as March 2016. This worries me as I would have expected this to be up to date at least - even if you do not plan on giving 6.0.1 (which, again, is disappointing). I hope I do no regret going with Umi as I have always previously gone with Nexus in order to get updates when Google releases them.
Thanks

Hello ben

Syanide is kinda right about that .. example Stock android and MIUI or other roms and custom rom.

If Umi use STOCK rom means Google ROM .. but if Umi use his own STOCK rom means UMI rom like MIUI. U guys should never advertise like we use google STOCK ROM. But i really hope u guys release the new security patch

Ben, thank you for your response, but based on that, the Samsung Galaxy phones come with "Stock ROM" as do Sony phones etc etc??

Lets not go on as we could carry on forever!

In any event, I thin I understand Umi's position regarding 6.0.1 - but can you at least confirm the position regarding the security update patches please?

I am not sure I agree with your definition of "STOCK". STOCK usually means as it was intended by Goo ...

You are correct STOCK means it's derived directly from the Google repo's (vanilla android)
Some manufacturers use the android base to build their own flavour of android ROM such as Samsung  touchWIZ, xiaomi miui, Amazon fireOS, oneplus oxigenOS etc some being messed with (customised) more than others but none are stock android!

So by stating STOCK android I take that as directly derived from the Google repo's and not messed with one bit! Meaning updates and security patches should in theory be seamless inline with googles roll out!

Now what UMI should have stated is that this ROM is there ROM with minimal alterations to the Google base, which won't receive google security patches or updates

Thank you for that clarification as I thought I was going mad! i also need to have a little beef with XDA as in their competition for winnig this phone (I didn't win, but it's what led me to buy this) it stated "Stock Android like a Nexus" - clearly not a case.

Anyway, back to where Umi stand on the Security Patches. Are they important enough to offer as Google intended?
