Hi, i bought my new UMI Touch just few days ago and i found a very big problem. When I am usign Google Maps, Waze or any other navigator the gps lose the connection every 5 seconds without giving me the possibility to use the navigation. What can I do? I heard about a process to fix GSP problem but it needs to root the phone and I think if i will do it I will lose the warranty and all the update by FOTA. Can you help me? I Are you working to fix this problem in the next firmware? because I saw so many people have the same problem.

Bye,
Luca.

Hi Ben,
do you have any idea when more or less the new firmware will be provided? like in few week ...

Hi Luca,

I guess in a week but that's not a scheduled job. Engineers are cuntinuously polishing the firmware.

Regards,
Bence

No, I used only the satellite GPS receiver in this test, no A-GPS. Fortunately I'm on a 260km-long traveling right now, so I took my Touch with and continuously use it for net browsing. After 200km I've never experienced any connection loss. I use iGO for navigation and it continuously works perfectly. I also tried some normal phone calls without any issues.
I can't confirm that, this one of yours is not a sporadic issue. Users come here to report they problems to get help (just a few of them until now) but other users don't come here to tell us how well they devices work.
You have an issue that must be solved but in this case your reseller can help you.

Please don't deny the fact that the GPS has problems. This is not a one-off issue... look around the forum... every other post is about the GPS accuracy.

Here is a screenshot which show the problem:

The blue dot shows the actual positions, which in this case is on a railway line! Once it is on the road, next second it is 20-30m off, then it comes closer and closer and jumps somehwere else again.

It has been reportad by many users that it is not accurate and and as such can not be used for navigation.

You would not believe how many times I have heard "újratervezés" (rerouting) from IGo...

And no.. testing this on motorways is not the best way. Go into small streets in the town and then try it!

With my old phone and in fact every other phone I had so far I was able to tell which room I am in the house. This barely shows the street - in fact currently shows me I am on the other street...

Dear users,

There are no such issues by the software. You might have a bad connected or misplaced antenna that should be mended. Please check the following post.

I received a UMI Touch for about a week and also have several problems in the GPS to the point of becoming useless.
Also found that the rear camera would be faster and better than it actually is.

Lots of people have this GPS issue, I'd suggest too many for it to be an antenna problem (unless many were not installed correctly in manufacture).  The phone DOES receive a GPS signal it just doesn't appear to be as strong or reliable as it should be.  Where is the GPS antenna located and how is it connected - I don't mind opening my phone to check it?

Edited by luca.dt at 2016-5-6 18:03 \n\nI dont think it is a Hardware problem because if you set the GPS to be used in the "Device Only" mode you will see same improvement. In the "Device Only" mode the GPS signal is stable but for sure the accuracy is a bit low, specially when you go fast. If you set the "High Accuracy" mode you will see that the GPS signal will be lost very very frequently so that it will not let you use the navigator. I am Software Engineer and I am pretty sure it is not a problem about the bad manufactory. What I think is that when you use Internet Data (2G or 3G or 4G) and GPS together you see the problem because the Internet Data is not working properly, it is not a GPS problem. In fact, when I am driving I am not able to make any calls because I lost the signal (2G or 3G or 4G) too frequently. Can some of you make the same test to check if you can make a stable long conversation (like 3-5 minutes) when you are driving a car?
I looking forward your reply.

Here are some indoor and outdoor GPS tests using the GPS (device) only. Do you think it could be more accurate?

Navigation apps don't need to continuously use a data connection or they simply never use it. On the other hand, that's quite normal if you lose the data connection sometimes for short times while fast travelling, since the radio towers frequently changes. That's quite not a special case about this model.
You still just prove that, you device has a specific (probably hardware) issue. Or as a software engineer can you imagine that, the same (and verified) software can work differently on multiple devices with the same hardware in the same state by a bug of the software?

Edited by luca.dt at 2016-5-6 19:44 \n\nSo... since we are almost some people having the same issue... are you telling us that UMI are using bad hardwares/components inside their phone? because it seems it is not a sporadic issue. Btw I told you that the problem is not about the GPS but about the Network Signal you lose the connection very often and specially when you are moving around. As you know with High Accurancy you use a system called A-GPS which is alwyas in connection for data sharing to better allocate position...
