This is the SP Flash Tool + OTA release of the
V1.2 20201130 system software
for UMIDIGI S5 Pro

European version for EEA countries

Flash tool operation is recommended to experienced users only. If you are not yet an experienced flash tool user, please carefully read the flash tool tutorial before proceeding, and strictly follow each instruction.

Except if an authorized or responsible expert directly asked you to do that,
never format the flash chip of your device or you instantly lose your warranty!

UMIDIGI S5 Pro receives all updates automatically via FOTA method. You need this tool only in case of emergency (if you've bricked your phone), if you want to apply a clean install or if you want to clear all root access and custom recovery to make your phone able to receive FOTA updates again. Moreover, flashing with SPFT is the only option to repair (replace) damaged system software.

Changelog:
  • In-screen fingerprint unlock optimized
  • APN list updated for wider mobile carrier support
  • Android security patch level updated
  • Other minor bug fixes and system optimization

FOTA version: UMIDIGI_S5_Pro.E_V1.2_20201130_1743

Flashtool tutorial: http://bit.ly/SPFTguide

Extract the .rar file before use. The scatter file (MT6785_Android_scatter.txt) is inside the extracted folder, together with the other components

VCOM driver: Windows 10 can automatically install it. Please make sure that your Windows is logged in with administrator rights and your computer has a working internet connection when first time connecting your phone.

Here's an optional solution to start the flashing process on your UMIDIGI S5 Pro if the standard method doesn't work.
It's especially useful if your phone is bricked or is stuck in bootloop
1. Connect your UMIDIGI S5 Pro to USB.
2. Start the flashing process with the Download button in the flasher app.
3. Press and keep pressed the power button of your phone until the flashing process starts (red bar appears at the bottom of the app window), then release it. In this process you have to keep the power button pressed for about 10 seconds.
4. Wait until the flashing process finishes.

If you accidentally formatted the flash chip of your phone, visit the following thread: UMIDIGI S5 Pro: Repair IMEIs, MEID and Google certificate

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OTA (recovery) update
Manual (local) OTA update method instructions
  • Copy the downloaded .zip file to the internal storage of your phone
  • Go to Settings → About phone → Wireless update
  • Tap the 3-dot menu button in the top right corner and select Local Updates
  • Brows for the ...update.zip file and select it
  • Select INSTALL NOW, then OK in the Warning window. Your phone reboots into recovery, the update gets installed, then your phone boots into Android. Your updated system is ready to use.

Update file for manual OTA update:
It can update version 20200702 only

Optional method (in case if the manual OTA update gets stuck): Install from recovery
You need a microSD card (with at least 4GB capacity) installed in your phone!
  • Copy the ...update.zip file to your SD card.
  • Press and hold the volume-up and power buttons together until your phone restarts in the boot selector mode. It needs about 10 seconds or a little bit less if your phone was already powered off.
  • Here you can move with the vol-up button and select an item with vol-down. Select Recovery.
  • Your phone boots into Recovery. Now you can move with both volume buttons, and select an item with the power button.
  • Move to ‘Apply update from SD card’ and select it.
  • On the next screen brows for the update file and select it. The updating process will start and needs a few minutes to be finished.
  • After a succcessful installation, you can read the ''Install from SD card complete.'' message and the receovery menu is available again.
  • Select 'Reboot system now'. Alternatively you can perform a factory data reset here by choosing 'Wipe data/factory reset'

Kind request from users:
Please report any kind of new issues you experience after installing this update only if you've already flashed this ROM with SP Flash Tool in Firmware Upgrade mode. In rare cases a FOTA update can cause more or less serious malfunctions but that means only the update process went wrong, not a badly developed ROM. An updated stock ROM, especially related to the basic functions will not cause any new issues but will solve some of the existing ones.

ROM donwloaded and installed.

So far I checked all bugs and improvements that I collected in previous topic. Below status.

Major bug:
1. Fingerprint unlock performance and reliability improved

Testing. So far I don't see any difference

Minor bug: UPDATE 08.08.2020 (point 4 updated)
1. It happens that after reboot of phone I lose setting of gesture and nagivation bar is back. I need then to set up this once again.

NOK - still same situation. After restart of phone I lose seeting of gesture and navigation bar is showing.

2. Very slow open of app when you use option "app lock" and pattern to unlock. With fingerprint option to unlock, application open faster but till fingerprint will not be improved it's hard to use that option.
NOK - no change that I could notice

3. I don't see option The Navigation  bar -> custom Background Color Setting that is mentioned in few posts. I tried to search in settings and with that I see that it found it but when I tap to go in, there is nothing -

OK - Now I see it

4. Lockscreen not waking up on all notifications, e.g when I receive SMS it wake up and I see message on screen. When I get mail on both app (I have separate for gmail, seperate for others mailbox) I get only sound notification but screen doesn't wake up, also same situation with Whatsapp.
4.1. It seems that settings Display->Look screen display->New notifications, doesn't work properly. It doesn't matter if it is switch on or off, when I receive message, screen always wake up.

NOK - Without changes

Improvements:
1. Make phone certified for Widevine L1

NOK - still L3

2. Possibility to set up animation of fingerprint reader to notify about unanswered messages. With option to set up on choosen application (marcoos idea that I really like)

NOK - not implemented

3. Translation (Polish) - In option Settings->Display->Screen Color Mode there is incorrect translation. There is "Tryn koloru ekranu". It should be "Tryb koloru ekranu".

NOK - still incorrect translation

4. Translation (Polish) - In option Settings-> About Phone-> Features, when you go into one of them at the bottom there is option "Open". In Polish there is "Zużyć niezwłocznie" that is very bad translation;) It should be "Uruchom".

NOK - still incorrect translation

5. Please add possiblity to double tap to wake up screen when it's lock. It's work to wake fingerprint animation but it could also work to wake up whole screen. It should be possible to set up differently in settings e.g. tap twice to show only fingerprint lock, tap twice to wake up screen

NOK - not implemented

To summarize. For me no changes. Nothing that was reported on the list was corrected, only one point but it already worked for most of users. Waiting for feedback from others. I'm curious if somebody notice any change.

"so why if I go to the Umidigi web page does it show the S5 Pro as their flagship product and still on sale as such?"
It doesn't help to find an acceptable answer if you ask questions based on false facts. The S5 Pro is not, and was not in production already when you contacted our tech support. It's neither being sold for months already since the stocks have run out. Independent sellers may still have some remaining stocks but it's not available on official UMIDIGI channels. The S5 Pro was the flagship in 2020, currently the Bison GT is that - which has been released with Android 10 just a few weeks ago since the Android 11 SDK was not provided by MediaTek in time. Worldwide brands can offer Android version upgrades because their handsets are still being sold (make profit) by service providers years after their release dates, not because they are such kindful companies. UMIDIGI is not such a big company, it's small and doesn't plan to grow much bigger.

Feels faster on average but I support what PEPE09 is saying.
Features are missing.

I attach my De-bloat config for magisk and debloat users.

Bootloader unlocked on previous version w/o trouble.
Flashed new version via SP, copied boot.bin to phone, patched it with new magisk, flashed - got bootloop.
Flashed original boot - works fine (no root ofc).
