Hi everyone,

My Iron has been dead for a while now.  It will not charge or light up.

The phone has not been flashed.  Had been doing some experiments (Drive Droid, etc), but haven't flashed the phone.

I left the phone on and it died.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Profess1211

Same problem here... My Umi was fully charged and it died when I let it on the table. No reason...
I've tried everything with no results. I'm really dissapointed about UMI...

By the way, the reseller does not respond to ma messages. So I have lost my money and my time.

Remove back cover. Then replace power conector of battery for 10 seconds. Connect it. Put back cover. Start your phone. It works again.

Hi thanks for replying.  I removed the battery (for 10-20 minutes) before I reconnected.
It still didn't work.

The battery may be fully dead?  I don't know.

Any tips?

In that case you should go to a local service to check all the components, not only the battery.

It's pretty much an unsupported phone.  Though there's loads of phone shops where I am, and maybe one 'techie' shop I could take it to.

I would buy a replacement battery to try this out.

Does anyone know where I could get a replacement battery for the Umi Iron?

Or would another battery from one of the other (older) models fit?  Not that concerned with the battery lifem, just want a working phone for now.

Regards, Profess1211.

In such cases that's usually enough to directly give an about 4V current for a few seconds to the disconnected battery to "wake it up" from its due-to-under-voltage suspended state. It has a definitely little chance, that your battery is really dead. Once the battery is in working state again, the phone itself will be able to charge it up.

So you think that the battery really isn't 'dead' as yet?  Or it's a slim chance.
So disconnecting it should have worked you mean?

Yes, disconnecting and giving 4V to it from an extrenal power source. That can be another battery connected with two wires.

Inside the phone is a square connector, which connects the battery to the phone (mboard?).

How would I connect an external power source to the battery to see if it can be given a jump start?  Where is + and - ?

Ideas?

I'll look it up also.

There should be +/- signs painted on the motherboard. If you can't see those signals, that's another way to connect your phone to a charger without battery, and you can measure the charging current on the battery pins of the motherboard with a multimeter. That device even can identify the polarity, the place of +/- connector pins.
