No if you have data connection it shows another little 4g above the big 4g. What about sliding down the notification bar twice and press on your provider to activate mobile data connection insted of yelling in this thread?

OK I'm officially an idiot.
It didn't work after OTA update to 7.1.1 and so I did a factory reset and forgot about activating it.
Thanks for putting me in my place and apologise for the anger.
