Hardware navigation keys and Tempered Glass Protector

Today or tomorrow I'll receive my UMI Iron, together with a Magic Glass tempered glass protector.
I've already installed Rootjoy and downloaded ROM 1.6 (yes, on an iMac with Parallels and Windows XP) to update the phone before installing any apps.
My question: if I install the tempered glass protector and switch from virtual nav keys to hardware nav keys, will these buttons function, as this protector covers the area where the hardware keys are situated?
