You can flash with SPFT without the recovery and userdata partitions, but then you have to re-root your system.

Hi bencebacsi... Are we to understand that the Plus E will no longer be updated or upgraded? It seems we're stuck on Android 6.0.1. Any update would be appreciated.

Hi,
Even the brand new UMIDIGI S2 will be released with Android 6.01 since this kind of Helio P20 (MT6757) has not received an Android 7.0 or newer SDK from MediaTek. Other Helio P20 phones (even UMIDIGI Z1 and Z1 Pro for example) are built with the next generation of the P20 SoC, that has the MT6757D code name, so they are not the same. It's up to MediaTek: once they release an Android upgrade for the MT6757 SoC, that will be possible to create such an upgrade for UMi Plus E.

Thanks for the reply Ben. You've mentioned that before and I guess the question would be: do you know if UMIDIGI is putting any pressure on or effort with MediaTek to make the SDK available? I mean, at this point they should ask for Android 8 SDK and just skip past 7... ;)

They are putting pressure since the beginning but UMi is just a little mouse against the MediaTek elephant. The Plus E was the first smartphone on earth using the Helio P20 processor and as far as I know, the only model with that first generation. So I wouldn't nourish much hope about the future.

I once tried to root my umi plus e with the instructions on this site and it works. But some time ago I pressed something on the TWRP that resets my phone apps and accounts (but my data in internal storage was safe). Now i tried to root again because root checker says I'm not rooted but after i flash the TWRP and press power + vol down, I always go into the chinese recovery screen which I didn't understand a thing. So can i get help on how do I flash TWRP?
edit: nvm, i was stupid. solved
