You can choose not to flash (uncheck) the userdata partition to keep your apps and settings. So, the key is the data partition: if you flash it, you'll get a factory data reset, if not, your data will be untouched.

Hi msyld,

Many thx for this suggestion to flash. I updated my Umi Rome and it seems running ok from this morning!
Steps followed:
1- download and install driver "MT65x3 USB VCOM drivers" with disable of the driver signature verification in Windows 8 to allow the installation.
2- download and install flash SPMDT from http://www.needrom.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Pack-SPMDT-v3.1536.00.00.rar  bcz i've got an issue "BROM ERROR: S_DA_SOC_CHECK_FAIL" when using "SmartPhoneFlashTool" )
3- Update the firmware (ROM) with using the last ROM version listed in http://www.needrom.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/UMI-ROME-25.zip

Today my phone stayl working correctly without pb screen and restart, even the battery level is from 50% to 35% . Hope that it will still working correctly!

Hi all
just wanted to post something that happened to my Rome in the last few days.
it started with the rome screen not coming on, but the back light was lit up.. Had to take the battery out and restart the phone.
flashed using rootjoy to v3.03 rom, everything was fine for about 4 days then the same thing started to happen, put the phone on standby using the power button and a blank screen but backlight still on.
anyway to cut a long story short, flashed again using SP flash tools and the same rom v3.03 for flash tools, the problem has now gone again, and the phone is back to normal.
has anybody had a similar experience with this, is this a rom,hardware problem ?
only had this phone for 2 weeks and the seller on aliexpress doesn't want to know.

so it means i can upgrade firmware to V3.03 without flashing it, i am a bit fonfused.
under flashing I understand to upgrade the firmware to Rom v3.03, am I right? and during this process I can choose wether to flash also userdata partition and if I dont check this or if i uncheck my apps and setting swill be untouched?
please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, with SP Flash Tool you can do that if you choose the 'Download Only' option. Just uncheck the 'userdata' (the last in the list) partition and your settings and apps will stay untouched.

Buenas tardes, por favor me puede ayudar a actualizar a Version 3.03 mi Umi Rome cuando se apaga ya no puedo volverlo a encender sin sacarle la batería. Gracias.-

Por favor, alguien que cuelgue un tutorial que merezca la pena de como actualizar a V. 3.03 y bien esxplicado, soy novato y tengo el problema de la pantalla en negro.
