Edited by houdini at 2016-6-6 19:49 \n\nHi umiGS, I'm from Italy too and it looks like no one wants to help us with this issue. Umi should try the product before put them on the market and not leave the buyer to testing the phone and resend to the seller if a problem occurs . At least the UMI should recall the devices with the knowed issue or should  be allowed, on request, to obtain the spare part could be defective  such as the cover part with gps antenna integrated if  the problem  depends on it.But here we have no quality checks and no support either......
Anyway, I would like to know wether someone tried to root the device and used some apps to fix the issue, because I' really think the main issue resides in a-gps and/or gps wrong parameters config.
I tried to root my phone on my own following the procedure "Install custom recovery (TWRP, CWM etc.) and root", but when I connect my phone turned off to usb, my system can't install the driver for  "Mtp device Usb".

Hi houdini,

My UMI Touch is rooted. I've tried every fixes but with no sucess, all navigation apps still jumping around...
In my particular case (i think), the problem is a weak SNR signal. I'm able to see 18 satellites but only 2 or 3 have more than 23 SNR signal.

Today i bought a used Bluetooth GPS Reciever (Holux GPSlim236) for 10€, i know that is not the perfect solution, but is a workaround solution. And it works...

However i have faith on UMI support team.

Hello,

I have the same problem with my UMI Touch, the GPS doesn't work correctly. In this video you can see a comparison of two UMI Touch, one is fine with the GPS and the other no:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvnnuQsSa8Q

I contacted with technical support at UMI to informa about this problem and the first answer was this:

2016-06-27 19:56 GMT+02:00 support <support@91umi.com>:
hi xavier! If you have root, try using the app gps fix and see how it goes.

I contacted again with them to know if one update could fix the problem, and the answer was:

2016-06-29 2:20 GMT+02:00 support <support@91umi.com>:
Hello, this is the app https://play.google.com/store/ap ... ab.gpsfix&hl=it

UMI is trying to find a definitive solution for this, but has not yet managed to get the problem solved an all situations. Sorry for the inconvenience.

So, the solution that they suggest is to have root of the smartphone (a very complicated procedure for newbies like me) and after install an app to fix the problem. But I can see that there are users that have tried to be root but finally they were not be able to fix the problem.

So, the question is if somebody has achieved to fix the problem, and if this answer is yes, I'll be grateful if they can explain the steps that they did.

Greetings

Hi Xagarsan,

I've already contacted the umi support.
On 12 May the answer was:
Yes, we know the GPS problem, our engineers are struggling on this problem, they said this is a Android 6.0 bug, they are looking for the reason all the time.
We will try our best to solve this problem as soon as possible.

Then i asked for a feedback.
On june 20 the answer was:
Dear,
Sorry, perhaps this is a hardware problem, can you take your phone to the  local phone repairment shop to check the phone antenna is in the right position.
If it doesn't help, perhaps you need to consult the reseller which you purhcased your phone to apply for warranty.
PS: I bet this thread will be closed soon, like other thread's about the same issue!!!!

It is a hardware problem, they sent me a new UMI touch (Screen problems and I asked for a replacement) and the GPS works fine in the new phone.
I suggest you to ask for a replacement if the GPS is important for you.

I asked for a replacement,  the seller **fox wanted a video which reports the issue. After I sent the video, they didn't answer me anymore. I have reason to believe that the phone they send me already have this problem and they already knew. It' s a very pity because my touch fixs gps satellites in three or four seconds. I can always see at least 15 satellittes and some of these have more than 30 SNR. The precision is also trhee meters but there is a slide in position of several meters every three or four seconds.
My last chance is to buy a replacement of antenna or hope in a umi fix. I am really disappointed at this moment, it seems there is no solution for me.

I think the solution would be to carry out always an old smartphone in the car with Tomtom app installed, that it works without data connection. I think there is no solution for this bug in Umi touch, although it could be rooted!

Thanks Xargasan. Actually I'm using an external gps antenna and the phone works fine with, but it's more complicated if you want to use the gps for other apps such as runtastic, or simply you are walking in a new city, you could never know. I think, the better solution for me, if Umi can't be able to resolve the issue, is to put my feet on it and buy finally  a seriuos smartphone.

Received mine a few days, seems ok so far, I'm coming from a 4 yr old beat up Galaxy S3 so any new phone would be a huge step up. That said Wifi is spotty and GPS definitely is annoying as mine also loses sync and jumps around or is behind where I actually am.

I am curious though how umi could approve this phone for release without ever verifying GPS/navigation is working properly?
