No updates via FOTA are available, until today.

I really did not wanted to lose my existing data, so I have been patiently waiting fot the FOTA update, instead.

Unfortunately, their servers seem to remain not working, which leaves us with no FOTA updates happening anytime soon.

Can someone please help me, how to make the transition from my old ROM to the newest one, without sacrificing my existing data, settings, etc.?

Can someone please care to explain step-by-step how to updrage the ROM manually, in order not to loos all data and settings already stored in the equipment?

Trully appreciate it.
Regards.

Ricardo

You can make it with SP Flash Tool, just leave checked the boot and system partitions only and your user data will remain untouched. In the case if SP Flash Tool refuses to flash your phone by this way (I can't try it by my own) and you get the "PMT changed for the ROM..." error message, please come back and I'll offer a more compicated but still working method. You also may visit this page to get info about how to backup and restore your user data. I also can recommend to use Titanium Backup before flashing a new ROM.

Thanks for providing that ROM. I have installed it and things are looking MUCH better!

How did you install the ROM? According to the instruction you connect the phone without the battery in it. After inserting the USB cable my phone is continuously connecting and disconnecting. The VCOM driver is appearing and disappearing in the device manager every 2 seconds. How did you solve this issue?

Never mind, I found out you just need to follow the instructions on the UMI forum, the 2 other options (AndroidXDA guide and Youtube guide) require you to remove the battery, in that case you will have the problem. If you connect with the battery inserted it will start the flash.

The problems with the Rome X aren't solved yet.

Battery is normal (not very strong). The GPS is like no GPS, very very very BAD. Camera is good. The screen is good, but the touch panel is ok in version 3.01 but bad in v 3.05. And yes, have a bluetooth module.

Thanks @sonydo for the info. Could GPS be solved by new FOTA. It is amazing that they solved touch screen in version 3.01 and spoil it in 3.05!!!

Hi. Seems these are fairly old posts and most have moved on to greener pastures regarding their phones.  I bought my mom a Rome X, after I was quite happy with my "Touch". Its a solid phone, more so than the "Touch" but the software, I noticed, is rather bad. The battery life is very short, the phone responds slowly to input and I constantly received spam messages, automatic subscription to services and random web pages opening. Today I researched a bit and found FOTA to be the possible culprit. There are several posts regarding it having been shipped with integrated spyware. Ive now disabled it, lets see how it goes. I seldom or never use the GPS function, but from experience, I have found my UMI "Touch"GPS functions useless, so perhaps the issue is across various models. The possible FOTA spyware has left a bad impression of UMI. I'll definately rather look at alternative options for a replacement phone in the future
