Here's the answer I got from UMI...

UMI SUPPORT:
Hi,
Please use the GPS under the free sky or the windshield, not under the plate roof of a car or inside a building to get accurate GPS signal.
If that  doesn't help, to rule out the possibility of an existing software error, I suggest you to flash your phone with SP Flash Tool, choosing the 'Firmware Upgrade' option in the flasher application. That process will completely rewrite the whole software content of your device. - You will lose your user data.

If that doesn't help, I suggest you to contact your reseller to (according to their warranty policy) make your phone repaired or replaced

ME:
I did as you said but the problem persists. I am running the latest firmware update (10-19) and nothing changed. Please inform your developers team that a fix for GPS is needed. A lot of customers are experiencing this issue

UMI SUPPORT:
That's just a few users (I'm bencebacsi, so I quite know that forum and also commented that thread), not a lot. Please try to imagine: If the GPS of thousands of devices works well and only a few of them doesn't, can it be a software bug, that we should fix? Obviously not. While we are really sorry for your inconvenience, if you really want to make your issue resolved, you should contact your reseller to make your phone repaired or replaced.

Here's the answer I got from UMI...

I UMI Support,

I receive last week my UMI PLUS from Amazon (Vendor CrosTheSea - shenzhenshidingxin huitong keji youxian gongsi).

GPS also has a problem. The best accuracy: 6 meters.

I can ask Amazon to replace my UMI PLUS, but I think the problem is firmware and not hardware.

I'm sure the GPS of thousands of devices don't works well and the problem is 100% present.

Thanks for your help.

Dear Users,

We still don't know about any general issue related to the GPS of UMi Plus. All of our test devices work properly and only a few users reported a such issue, although we receive hundreds of emails every day to support@91umi.com and on our facebook page.
All smartphones with MT6755 SoC shows a 6-meter accuracy as the best, sometimes 5 meters. Anyway 6 meters is the width of the narrowest authorized 2-lane road. Hope, it's enough for navigating. Of course, it's not a military tactical device.

ok, I would never complain about the 6 meter accuracy of GPS and in many reviews such numbers are seen as average and acceptable for this price point.

However, the 'jumping around' of GPS position is something else and is totally unacceptable because it shows position changing by many hundreds of meters every few seconds, this renders GPS unusable, much like the phone has no GPS at all.

Same thing about being slow to fix GPS position and getting low signal strength while other phone a few centimeters away fixes position fast and gets considerably stronger signal, this somehow tells me that if UMi phone got same signal strength it would also fix position faster and probably stay fixed in one place and not jump around, which is also discussed a lot in earlier models threads with numerous attempts of modifications in GPS antenna area, both GPS antenna internal (back cover) connections and GPS antenna itself.

Besides that, sending such a device, because of such GPS 'positioning jumping around' back to retailer entails significant expenses and defeats the purpose of buying such a device at this price point in the first place, so, for the potential buyer, the possibility of having some kind of 'dysfunctional' GPS and having to send device back etc makes buying such device a potentially very expensive and frustrating and time consuming decision, this does not sound very good for sales figures at all imho.

Any chance that with nugat upgrade the GPS might work more acceptably with no 'jumping around' and stay fixed with 6 meters accuracy at all times?

I really would like to know if that phone had a full plastic back side, how much GPS antenna reception would be improved just by that change alone, maybe the phone should be shipped with a spare full plastic back in the box so if the user wants he can replace metal back by himself.

Or even better, why not bring to the market the model UMi plus (-) with a full plastic back at a slightly reduced price ?

Yes!!!

My UMI PLUS has the same jumping GPS problem.

Without move outdoor, the GPS jump sometime to 200 meters !!!

My receler is ok to replace my UMI PLUS with another one but I think all the UMI PLUS has this GPS problem...

UMI Support -> Please: update firmware quickly and correct this Bug. If not, I will ask the refund and buy a new phone without this problem.

Thanks by advance.

We are not arguing about the 6 meters accuracy instead about the crazy behaviour of the location dot that jumps around the map like a maniac in the range of 500m-1km...making the GPS unusable with gogle maps (I've tried other navigation apps and it's the same). You've got several reports about this,  maybe is time to recognize that there is a problem...and start moving in the direction to fix it

Edited by KPav at 2016-11-2 02:40 \n\nHello, I have got Umi Plus for 2 days, bought from Geekbuying.com.  Using Google Maps, or Offline Maps for navigation and I can confirm the GPS has an issue. Fix for a few seconds, then fix is lost for hundreds meters, position changing, then new fix for a few seconds and lost again.

It is unacceptable to negate this kind of issue. Man up UMI and find a solution. Thanks

Yep, got it for a few days now, very jumpy, no fix indoors at all, have contacted the seller about this, said that it needs a few times to settle in... thats not a real thing, right?
Anyways, also experiencing the issue here.
