Hi,
i have now my Crystal. Great Phone. Question: Do a Cardboard or other Virtual Reality System works with the phone? Do someone test the Crystal with a VR System?
best regards,
Sebastian

Hey y'all,
I've been researching the upcoming Umidigi Crystal for the past couple hours and I cannot figure out whether or not it will work with 3g on AT&T in the United States.
As seen here, the phone supports bands 2 and 5 (1900 and 850mhz, respectively.) However, what confuses me is that the website lists these bands under GSM and has a separate section for WCMDA, which it lists as requiring bands 8 and 1 (900 and 2100mhz.)
I was under the impression that WCDMA is a type of GSM technology. FrequncyCheck lists bands 2 and 5 as UMTS, which is the same as WCDMA, for all intents and purposes, correct? So, why are these bands listed as GSM while bands 8 and 1 are listed as 3g/WCDMA? If the Umidigi Crystal supports GSM bands 2 and 5, will I be able to at least get HSPA+ speeds on it?
Sorry for how wordy this is; I wanted to be as thorough as possible. Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Hi smirc, in my personal opinion, with the processor within it would not be a good candidate for true VR experience. Higher end processor speed would be a better device to experience VR. For these phones, even though they are octa cores processor, the system will limit the speed and the number of cores use once the temperature exceeds the preset limit.

If you install the CPU monitor app you can see that periodically you will see pop up notification of CPU temp exceeding 60 degrees celcius.

VR will be putting a lot more stress on the CPU to perform, but mid tier CPU will not be able to perform well for VR experience.

Hi Penamas,

do you think that the device can not run YouTube-Videos or simple VRGames? mh..
And do this Crystal fit in a VR-System or not?

As far as I can work out, AT&T USA uses 850MHz (B5) and 1900MHz (B2) on 3G (The Umidigi Crystal operates on 900 MHz (B8) and 2100 MHz (B1) on 3G so it does not appear that it would be compatible).

You won't be able to use VR with the crystal, it has no hardware gyroscope but only a software-based one which pulls data from the accelerometer and compass.

For instance, trying to use google camera to do a photo sphere is impossible, google sees a gyro reported by the device so it gives you the option of trying, but... well just wait and see for yourself, it's not happening
