Yes, disconnecting and giving 4V to it from an extrenal power source. That can be another battery  ...

How much for your plane ticket?!
I'll go to the shop. That level, though not difficult (if you know how) is a bit complex for me.
Thanks.

If there's anymore solutions I'd be grateful to hear.

Regards.

This special connector of the battery makes the issue a bit more difficult. However, once you've solved, it probably won't happen again, at least not if you won't leave your fully exhausted battery without charging for days.

OK Thank you.

I've taken it to a shop.  Took it to 3 shops; the other 2 didn't want to touch it because they 'wouldn't have parts' cause it's a 'Chinese' phone...

I suppose that you tried before carry Iron to shops, but, when Iron died, did you charge phone for a lot of time?.

Doing tests, I checked that if Iron is totally discharged, you can't switch ON when you start charging. You must wait for a long time charging in order to be able to switch ON, I don't know why, but finally it switches ON

All mobile phone batteries are built with their own protection circuits. If the internal voltage drops under about 3.2V, that circuit turns off the output of the battery to avoid the damaging of the cells due to under voltage. The result: the charging circuit of the phone can't recognize anymore the existence of the battery, so it doesn't start the charging process. However, the phone still sends very short voltage pulses to the battery. After a certain time, those pulses give enough power to the battery to awake it again, so the normal charging process can start. Depending on the working of the protection circuit and the condition of the battery cells that revival can take for some minutes, some hours or never happens. In that latter case (or if you don't want to waste your time) you have to remove the battery and charge it with an external power source. Just a dozen of seconds (by 4V) is enough, then you may put back the battery into the phone, and it can charge that again.

That's all fine and dandy but you know well that we don't buy phones to find it dead because for some reason hardware/software in the phone is malfunctioning. It shouldn't do this and we shouldn't have to open the phone and fix it on our own.

You gave exact same advice to me but my phone wasn't discharged, it was fully charged and software/hardware malfunctioned - my phone is in repair at UMI, I told them to fix also GPS(common hardware issue) and now they are waiting for parts, so I'm being told - how can they be out of parts?

It has been 5 months since I bought it, I had it at home for 3 days, where 1 day was when phone worked and it bricked itself and I have sent it back. If I'm lucky it will be back in 1-3 months

As for the battery - this seems to be one of the common problems, it is a second or third post that says the phone is not charging or battery is dead - if the solution is to wake up the battery by charging it I suggest to make imgur gallery with clear instructions how to do it.

Better yet make a whole thread that collects posts with issues and fixes for them - that would make life a lot easier for those of us who had misfortune to buy this phone. For those who have working phones - good for you - I and many others are not so lucky

I think you can't find a brand and model on earth with 100% error free production. This issue of an off turning battery can happen with a good chance if somebody makes exhausted a brand new phone without charging it at least at the first time, but that doesn't mean that, it's impossible to be happened in other conditions. That just has a very little chance.
I'd kindly write more tutorials about anything if I got some test devices for that. Until now, I received an eMAX mini only from UMI and if you look into the ROM section, you can find some results of my job with that. I won't use my own UMI eMAX for experimenting and other models are not available yet.

The shop couldn't fix it - nothing they could do.

I agree with Bobekfpj - phones (these phones of this standard) should not have these problems.  I believe this version has several bugs.  We are buying the test versions.  Unlike other brands that release a working model, knowing they will upgrade it (hardware / software), is different.  The phone DIED and cannot be recovered.  Not by me, not right now at least.

So I have a £100+ brick.  Unable to boot, unable to charge (even when plugged in for a long time), battery connected / disconnected.  Nothing!

I am sorry I bought this brand of phone.  There were other phones available.  Most probably they're not having problems like the UMI Iron.

And like was said before - if you have a working phone, good for you!  Do not update it - just use it for the basics.  That's the best advice I can give you.  The UMI Iron is an excellent-spec phone, however, it is of basic design and support from the company - especially if it breaks.

You would expect them to do better, however, they need to release the model and recover some of the money they've used to make the devices.

Expected better.
