I noticed when you go in to aeroplane mode and out again. It goes in to 4g mode stays there for about 20 seconds and goes back in to 3g mode? Also say you drive from one end to the city to the next. I have to keep registering the network in settings or I have no data

man i will not rent a car just to test gps, but i can assure you that when i receive my super, gps ...

don't worry i did that too, one part of my route was in metro and bus, gps was ok.  I am the first to complain about quality of super but when something works it has to be said too.  Again i repeat my gps was shit in the beginning since i use the app found on google play everything is ok, maybe i got luck.  But i can tell you that i have other issues.  If the gps starts to jump again don't worry i will tell it.  Till now i could not recommand the super because some of them work good others no.  What i really hate for now is the silence of umi staff concerning a new update and feel, like you guys, abandonned.  Probably umi doesn't really care cause they know we don't have lot of option as they settle in China. Even if umi resolves some issue i probably not buy anymore this brand, my trust is gone.  I had a simallar story with sony and its second tablet (tablet xperia s) they abandonned it just after it was out and left this tablet will lot of bugs, i was a big fan of sony phones but since then never a sony shit again (and it's include tv, ps4, and all their stuffs).

What i hate too it's that umi tricked me with the specifications : it's not 185gr but 200gr, it's not 0,85 cm thick but 1 cm, maybe it's not gorilla glass 3, camera is probably not panasonic and i stop here cause i feel like nothing is branded as they advertise.  But umi forget that we are not anymore in the 80's and when people complain it's spread very fast on the net, they can trick people one time but not till infinite.  Do you see Sony now, except their PS4 branch all the rest is on deficit.

I will finish my post buy saying that this phone has the wrong name, it has to be called Umi BAD.  I hope for them their new phone will not be a MAX of problems

1. installed the new firmware

2. went in my back garden to try the GPS, it was all over the place

3. used it to do a 60 mile round trip in my car with:-
offline google maps navigation
wifi turned off
2nd sim turned off
main sim 2G only on
phone not rooted

locked on the road all the way, though agree this is at a smaller scale than when in my garden, as per a previous post this is no good for geocaching, but am going to give it a try with my push bike soon and see if speed of transit has anything to do with its inaccuracy

Nothing changed. Still inaccourate and jumping around while standing still.
Already bought a Xiaomi Redmi - you would start laughing when you compare the gps of both side by side... because the Super looks like you taped it onto the back of a headless chicken.

At least I am done with this company, their empty promises and style of problem solving.
Never again UMI.

Strangely I have no issues wih the positioning. Quite acurate. Checking here and there, using Maps as navigation... no issues. Exept that the battery drains significantly faster when positioning is on.

Edited by Errand at 2016-8-15 18:43 \n\nWhen I fire up YPGS from engineer mode to test the GPS it locks really well so I don't think it's a hardware issue.  Other apps however suffer from a weak jumpy signal.  Switching back to YGPS in the background in areas that are struggling to find a lock will put me back in the right place.  Unfortunatley as a background app YGPS signal fades so hopefully UMI can find out what's going wrong soon.

Have you tried using an app which keeps the GPS location service active (i forget the name of the one i have used before now, it might have been GPS status).
So that the GPS is kept alive when using another application?

Hi again to all
After trying all the software and hardware fixes I could find I was just about ready to change my super for a le eco le max2. Then I tried one more thing. I installed the app gps reset com and also Here gps navigator. It actually works, I can now use the phone to do navigation. I know the gps is not the best but Google maps is part of the problem. Here app is free give it a try there is nothing to lose.

Just returned from a 2-weeks driving trip across Europe and... I'm going to return my UMI Super tomorrow. GPS was just not usable in any decent sense, under any circumstances: on long flat motorways it kept suggesting me to re-enter the motorway as it believed I was on some side-roads; in towns everything was just a raw guess; I had to combine my car GPS (extremely accurate but with maps last updated 4 years ago) with waze on UMI (with maps updated almost real time, but with a random position)! PS I also tried some running with either Strava and Runtastic and it's a shame I didn't apply on time for Rio as my Super reported me as swimming at 10km/h across the lake I was running around!
