UMI, please, answer!

Is it software, or hardware problem?
Is it normal to have only one pin on GPS/WiFi antenna?

Other mobile phones with MTK67xx have good GPS. Why has UMI Super bad?

Don't do it by feet, grab a car or something and use google maps or pokemon go. For me pokemo go is the best test, while driving i have the game on and my position is never correct.

I tried this experiment:
Put aluminum foil between 2 pins.

In Android:
Settings - Location - Mode - Device only
Turn on Airplane mode - turn on GPS
And now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ ... 465336#post67465336
(in 4. delete all (Hot, Warm, Cold, Full, VzW Cold, delete EPH, delete Time)

GPS is much better now! I have no problem now. Even in the car. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ipMCBf_KWk

Now I think about how to tweak the GPS antenna. I try to copy the Nexus 5 GPS antenna and paste it into UMI.

Before modification, i had GPS location like this (in Gmaps, Waze, Pokemon GO): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2tXR_obxZiqbEZGMDV3UUVCeW8/view

OK, i think - It's realy hardware problem!

I tried this experiment:

The Nexus 7 had a very similar problem with its WiFi antennae, two tabs, which were very brittle, touched the 'foil' which was integral to the back cover, for many people these tabs eventually bent down permanently, or worse, broke off. The solution for some, me included, was to solder wires from the tab stumps to the 'foil', great thereafter.

I strongly suspect that for the majority of us this is a hardware problem, and I cannot imagine UMI doing a recall, so I think people either need to return under warranty or do a suitable repair. It also seems to me more of us are likely to face this as the phones age.

I am returning my UMI SUPER and just bought galaxy s5.
Best decision ever. Now my GPS works! My camera is super and no moisture problems with the screen.
And.. for the same price but second hand. Only the battery lasts less and the fingerprint sensor is not as fast but hey.. this is not a 2016 phone. Sorry UMI but I waited enough.

The price of postage from me to China is ca. $100. It is half price of phone.
So I must mobile repair itself. :/

That's a chunk of money, it only costs £15 from the UK, registered 2nd class; and of course given that the problem is not a 'repair' as such, more a design defect, I suspect the chances of getting it back, permanently fixed, are not guaranteed!

Since the UMI Super is a new phone and the metal backing is not removable by the user under the normal use the defect in the antena system is therefore a quality control problem.

In a nutshell UMI should test the gps before sending the phone to the purchaser.  The metal backing that has only one metal contact instead of two has been marked with a big cross in the factory but it was still used in the production, possibly to satisfy the waiting customers.

UMI will suffer from this oversight because many UMI super work perfectly.  Te faulty ones are simply badly put together!
