According to the date stamps in your photos, after the battery had started to swell, you continued to use your phone for further almost two weeks. Unfortunately, that was not a good idea, you should have stopped to use your phone immediately after you saw the first abnormal symptoms. Of course a defective battery can explode if you keep using and charging it but only in that case. Generally such a behavior voids your warranty. If you don't know why but want to know, I can explain it in a later post. So your success depends on how you handle the further steps of this case.
To get a replacement phone or a refund, you have to do the same as if you made a purchase at a local store: you have to return your goods to the same store. If you buy something from a foreign country, that device still can be defective as something that you buy locally.
There are some actions that you can take and can ensure your success and/or can reduce your costs.
1. If you paid via PayPal and your seller refuses to replace your defective phone, open a dispute on PayPal and escalate it to a claim if needed. PayPal can pay you a fulll refund after you've returned your item if you request that.
2. PayPal also can refund your shipping cost in both cases if you return your item for a refund or for a replacement.
3. If you return your device for a replacement/repair, to avoid to pay customs fees when you receive your replacement device, you can fill in the CN23 type form when dispatching your returning item. Later, when you receive your replacement goods, using your CN23 form you can certify that, it is a replacement device and you can get it for free of charge. You can get the CN23 form at your local post office too.
