UMI Plus - Volume increasing on its own

Got myself a UMI Plus at the weekend.  After unboxing it went through several updates to insall Nougat and is now on what I gather to be the latest available build (UMI PLUS.V3.01_20161228).

The volume keeps increasing to maximum on its own.  I don't believe the button is sticking as I can turn it back down to a reasonable level and then it will stay at that level for hours, sometimes overnight even, and then randomly max out again!  I'm trying to use Rocker Locker to manage this which is ok but not perfect - any idea's if this is hardware or software?

I should add that I am brand new to Android (come from Windows Phone), but quite technically minded

Weird! What happens if you lower it so it switches to vibrate? Does it go from vibrate to max loudness by its own?

Not sure as bizarrely it has stopped doing this since I posted!  Will keep an eye on it, maybe there was something going on with the switch...
