I really love using my Super with VR headset. Only problem is the quality of content.  From youtube 360 app I can select maximum of 1080s which is pretty poor considering it is streched to 360 and you see only small fraction of it. Do you know why I cant swich to higher resolution? Also when i download 4k video I am unable to run it (I am using Free VR Player and when I run video it just play sound and no image). Same with downloaded videos for ARTE360 app. I tried both 30 a 60 fps videos, cannot run either of them.

Do you guys have an idea why? And any solution?

i had to change the pixel density to 309dpi, to to this i had to use ADB.
If you have rooted your phone you can download an app to change the pixel density.

As for watching 4k video on my phone i have no reason to, the phone has a 1080p screen and thats all it can support from viewing terms.

So by lowering pixel density you are able to run higher resolution videos from Youtube? Wouldnt quality be the same? As for your other comment, I dont mean ordinary 4k videos (what would be the point with 1k screen). I mean 4k 360 videos where you see only fraction of it. Right now 1080s (not 1080p) 360 looks pretty terrible.

By changing the pixel density of the screen is just like changing the native resolution on your PC. i think default is 440 dpi.. ? I know i had issues with this on my Oneplus and had to change the pixel density for google cardboard to run correctly to 309dpi.

Edited by Dareuss at 2016-6-23 17:53 \n\nSuper is set in default to 480 DPI. Can you confirm that change will affect ability to play more than 1080s videos? I dont really want to root it unless i have to. (btw i tried different apps like Free VR Player, AAA VR Cinema, 360 VR and none of it can play more then 1080s video, sound is ok, no video tho)

You can test it by downloading ARTE360. Download any video and try to play it from app or any player above. Thanks

You don't need to root to use Adb it's just a case of having the android suite installed on your Mac or pc and it's literally sending 1 line of code over to your phone.http://www.androidbeat.com/2015/ ... evice-without-root/

Did not work, I tried 2 different DPI (400, 350) and it is still the same. I dont think it is DPI problem. Any other advice? All VR apps working fine, just cant play 2160s videos and max youtube is 1080s. This phone should be able to handle it.

Dear users,

The video playback starts at the decoding of the video stream and the video decoder of MT6755 SoC that powers this phone limits the max resolution to 1080p@30fps. You can't play a video with a higher then 1080p resolution using the hardware decoder. There are some video player apps (MX Player for example) that offer their own software decoder for playing 2k/4k videos. However, that definitely won't be a smooth playback and your screen still won't get new pixels on its surface to show all pixels. Using a VR box you watch your screen very close and it splits to two halves, so the result will be pixelated - half screen very closely. Even if you play back a 2k/4k video, the amount of pixels on the screen of your phone will be still the same.
Regards,
Bence
