The phone can only connect to a Wi-fi that is not protected by a password. When I try to access a protected Wi-fi, the password gets "saved" but doesn`t connect. Does anyone have any advice?

Please download and install the latest FOTA update. http://community.umidigi.com/thread-2639-1-1.html
Double check whether you typed the password correctly - make it visible while typing.

Dear, this is probably not a bug, more likely Android which found the wifi but is unable to connect due to too low connection.

there is clearly something wrong with the Wifi implementation on the Umi Touch.
Connection is not stable. PLease fix this first before adding any more functionality to the Umi Touch ROMs.
This is the most urgent issue!

I just received my Touch from UMI today. I tested its WiFi capability with all the three recent firmware versions and it always worked perfectly. It's continuously stable with a little bit higher than the average reception range. So, if some of you have bad experiences, that must be the result of a specific hardware defection. That cannot be solved by software updates but by a repairman. If this issue makes your phone useless or at least that seriously limits its capability, you should request a replacement at your reseller.

Are those people with wi-fi problems all using WEP security (this is old and less secure- better to use WPA/WPA2 if possible)?

Edited by trigger2003 at 2016-4-27 00:31 \n\nLikewise Wifi issues here, Firmware 3.0.3 and WPA2, quite a bunch of different mobile devices (> 10) connected to the same AP/router at the same time work flawlessly.

UMI Touch is losing connection and reconnects quite often (sometimes every few minutes). One moment in settings the wifi signal strength is still shown as "good", the next second connection is lost.

IMHO this does not look like an individual physical damage, but like a firmware bug.
Update:
Connection occasionally stops transmitting, while wifi icon is still visible. After a while the wifi icon disappears also and in most cases OS then tries to reconnect. This can however take minutes.
One can accelerate/shorten this procedure by deactivating/activating wifi manually, this mostly brings back wifi connection in a few seconds.

The whole issue seems to be somehow in conjunction with the way how to hold the phone respectively cover the antennas with the hands.

Perhaps the wifi part of the firmware (driver?) does not react so well on wavering signal strength

I've already tried with two different routers with WPA2 security but absolutely no such issues, regardless of my distance (until its border) or how I move my phone. If that were a software related issue, then it would effect each phone of the same kind running the same firmware version.
To lock out a possible software bug, I suggest you to flash the latest available ROM with SP Flash Tool, then after the first boot up, process a FOTA update.
