Hi Bencebacsi:
Many thanks for your reply.  Very helpful.

As a follow-up, I have downloaded the V3.04 update and am curious as to the best approach to flash the update.  As I recall, when I updated to V3.03 using the SP Flash Tool, following the usual steps, I needed to re-configure my homescreen settings and I think I may have needed to reinstal some of the software and network settings.  Is there a reliable way to backup my Rome's software and configuration settings so that they can be preserved or restored easily after the ROM update?

Also, do you know if/when Android 6 will be available for the Rome?

Thanks.

Hi Ron,

There are several ways to protect or restore your user settings before/after flashing your phone.
1. In SP Flash Tool you uncehck the userdata partition before flashing. However, in that case you won't be able to choose the 'Firmware Upgrade' method what is higly recommended anyway.
2. You can make a TWRP backup, then restore your backup after flashing.
3. You may backup your data with TitaniumBackup, then restore it after flashing and reinstalling that app.
If you want to enjoy all benefits of an update, I recommend you to the third option with choosing just specific apps and app data sets, not your whole user data.

Regards,
Bence

Have you installed the SPFT version provided in this thread and choosing the 'Firmware Upgrade' method? If you've done it but the issues are still present, then your phone might have a specific hardware defection, that cannot be patched by a firmware update. In that case you should request a replacement from your reseller.

Hi:

I just updated to V3.04 using TWRP 2.8.7 following the process at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8S2s6MvAd1U. I needed to reboot a couple of times and reset the SuperUseronce, but it all worked well for me.

Does anyonw know if the TWRP 3.0.2-1 available at http://www.needrom.com/category/umi/umi-rome/ is officially OK to install for the MT6753 ROME?

Thanks.
