Okay, since I am fed up with all the issues with Umi or Umidigi Z (or howerver they are going to call themselves in the future) , I have decided to let the Umi Z go and to get something more reliable.I am tired from rooting the phone over and over every time just to be able to disable the damn smallwindow app.
I am tired form performing factory resets all the time just to see whether anything starts working better (usually not).
I am starting to have doubts about the promised OTA update to Nougat. If it is (eventually) coming, seeing the number of bugs in Android 6, I am really worried about how Nougat would look like.
They mentioned somewhere on the web that they did not want to rush Nougat, therefore decided to go ahead with "proven and stable" Android 6. LOL!
I am also afraid that this phone has severe HW issues. The touch screen is very bad and I often need to tap several times, my compass is not working... but the worst thing is that seeing the other guys complaining about batteries almost going to explode, 4G issues, partially missing oleophobic coating, notification menu pulling down randomly probably due to faulty digitizer, phone not charging... I still have the feeling that despite my issues I was quite lucky.

The Umi Z looks very good on paper and for affordable price.
I wanted a pure Android with no TouchWiz, MIUI and similar bloatware.
Umi Z looked really promising to me. But the UMI's quality control does not seem to work at all and the software is even worse.

They have been rolling out new devices like crazy and not spending enough time with quality checks and bug fixing. There are too many companies like this in China.
Selling as many devices as they can and cut down QA and SW development. Yeah, that is the only way for them how to compete with the others.

Do you want a cheep phone with good paper specs - buy this or Elephone or Jiayu or any other as they are all the same (and yes, I owned all of them).
Exactly the same story every time.

Lesson learned - I do not have the time to play around with these cheep phones anymore. You can buy a phone but nobody can buy time. And I already invested too much time in this phone.
If I take this into account, UMI Z is way more expensiv than more reliable brands.

Anyway, I have to say I am really disappointed. However, I wish you all the best and hope that you will get all the bugs eventualy fixed (hahaha) and you will get Nougat too.
I just do not have the time to wait until my phone works as one would have expected from a "flagship". I prefer life over re-flashing my phone.

Take care all of you.

I see it as the Russian roll, when I see the crazy number of people talking about their bad experiences with the UMI Z, I tell myself that I really have a lot of luck, as set apart the white line (settled with A glass tempered glass screen) I have no other problem for the moment.

Concerning Nougat, it should arrive in April, but is this information to make wait or is it real?
I'm afraid, like you, of the release of nougat

Wait & see

Edited by kdj at 2017-3-30 14:39 \n\nSame here man. Fed up of shit camera, unstable rom, substandard screen and unusual problems popping up here and there. I am off to Xiaomi - apparently its a much better brand stable, always works and almost similar in price - i will lose some money in selling it but i can't deal with it anymore. Umi got alot of limelight with the release of Z and Z pro but they have decided to fu*k it up. Their loss not mine. But honestly if i knew any journalist i would let them see the amount of crap Umi is selling so could go and write abt it in press.

Anyway best of luck to everyone here-they are in for a joy ride!

I feel exactly the same, you summed up the situation very well.

I'm looking for a nice deal for a reliable phone at the moment and selling the UMI Z (if I manage to...) as soon as possible.

No more UMI for me...

I am returning my phone. I can't believe how bad Umidigi is with communication. Not a single hardware issue is being addressed. I'm suprised they aren't telling us to flash the latest rom when a battery is about to explode.

+1 tequila.
I am very disappointed from UMI, very bad company, same as the rest of the Chinese cheap phones brands reborn.
I hoped to see another Xiaomi or Meizu, but not really.  in the end of the day a $250 phone is what it is cheap and nasty.
Last time i buy UMI.

I really don´t want to defend UMI at all cost, the phone has it sets of problems and there are issues to be fixed. However I still think the situation is not that bad. Most of the people that experienced a problem will eventually stumble upon this forums looking for a fix, so it might look that almost every single UMI Z has a problem of a kind. I don´t want to play down the hardware issues people have including battery swelling, bad digitizers or faulty chargers. I understand their frustration and rage, because the whole RMA process when ordering from China is a hassle. But these kind of things happen even with the reliable brands like Samsung, LG or Apple.
Considering the software side, there are a lot of bugs plaguing the official ROM, but the new OTA is released almost every 2-3 weeks so it´s not like there is no support, just some issues might take time to fix and test. Also I am not sure how many problem was caused by a QA and Software development and how much of them are inherited from the Mediatek, considering Helio X27 is a new platform (althought mostly similar to X25). I just hope UMI will continue to support this phone and eventually most of the bugs will be fixed in the future updates.

I am fully agreed with you on this opinion , most of the problmes are softwere related which can be fixed.I also think that battery swelling is also caused by the processor overheating , which can be controlled.
