Stop Hardware button opening screen?

I'm perfectly happy with the power button on the side of the phone.

I don't wish to remap all my buttons, but find the Hardware button (at bottom of screen) opening of the screen when pressed agravating -  i.e. when phone in my pocket even a gentle press will open the screen with consequent inadvertant actions, or at least helping to drain the battery.

How can I switch off this "feature".
