Hi,

I have had my Umi Super for about 2 months now & reckon it's a fantastic phone - friends of mine at work have seen it and have now purchased themselves one also.

However, I do have a major concern I wish to bring to your attention - I cannot make emergency calls!!

A few weeks back I needed to call the ambulance. When I dialed the emergency number (111 here in New Zealand), the call would not go through and just dropped out! I tried multiple times both from the lock screen & through the normal dialler, both with the same result.

I either get an 'engaged' signal - "beep - beep - beep" or the call is just dropped.

I reported this to the carrier (Vodafone NZ) and provided screen shots off the phone showing the times I tried making the calls. Their network engineers have investigated my problem & have determined it's the handset (phone) as the calls never made it up onto the network. They have no record of the calls at their end but can see a couple of calls I made prior to the emergency call, and subsequent calls since then.

Naturally, I do not want to be in another life threatening situation where I have to make an emergency call and I can't!

Can you please tell me if there is a setting on my phone I need to activate or at least investigate why my phone would be rejecting the emergency call. I've had two firmware upgrades and this has not fixed the problem. I hope it's not a bug with the phone hardware.

Thanks.

Hi,

I had exactly the same situation tonight in the UK. Tried dialling 999 our emergency number and call immediately cut off and wouldn't go through!!!

Hi stix061
Have you tried placing you sim card in slot 1?
Mine was originally in slot 2 with an SD card in slot 1 and I couldn't connect to UK emergency services.
By placing my sim in slot 1 I was immediately able to dial 112 on the first attempt.
This is not ideal as it should work in both sim slots. At the very least UMI should make all users aware of this. I
'm guessing this could be corrected with a software update.

Hi Purdydog,

Many thanks for your reponse - I have put my SIM into slot 1 and emergency calls now work . Yes, I agree, it should work in both slots!!

I'll be letting UMI know of this fault in the hope that they can fix it in a firmware update as I too want the uSD in my phone.

Cheers
