I recently used my UMIDIGI phone to help set up a Starlink dish at home, and it turned out to be a very handy tool, so here are the steps in case they help anyone. The Starlink app has an obstruction check that uses the phone camera, so I held the phone where I wanted the dish and slowly scanned the sky, after allowing camera access in the phone settings. The dish needs a clear view of the sky from roughly 20 to 25 degrees above the horizon, and trees were my biggest problem. After the dish was running, I walked around the house with the phone to compare Wi-Fi signal in each room and moved the router to a more central spot. If your roof is tiled, remember that Starlink does not recommend its Pivot Mount for tile, slate or clay roofs, so a ridge or pole mount is worth considering.

Not every job is a good DIY project, especially when it means climbing on a roof or fixing a TV signal that keeps dropping out. In Brisbane and South East Queensland, the team at the team at Topline Antennas offers TV antenna installation, antenna repairs and Starlink installation, so it can be worth asking a local installer before drilling into a roof. Whatever you choose, take photos of the roof and cable route with your phone first, because they make it much easier to explain the job. Has anyone else here used their UMIDIGI phone for home setup tasks like this? What apps or settings made it easier for you?
