They should release the source code so there can be customized roms. There are many good guys on xda eager to build a better rom. I am also running a custom rom, but because of the kernel source code is not releasing stock kernel. Elephone p9000 has custom kernel (same processor).
Since the current version does not work well, it is best that UMI start working with the latest sources of Android:

OnePlus has a Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 820 SoC - At the other end of the spectrum when it comes to phone SoCs.
I'm pretty certain there's no 7.1 SDK released by MediaTek for the P10 SoC, and I really doubt there ever will. After all, it's just a budget SoC for mid range devices. Pretty impressive there's a Nougat SDK at all, even if it obviously leaves some room for improvements...
Just for fun since i received my new non umi phone the elephone s7 this morning i decided to install this release of Nougat 7 two days ago. I must say, the battery life has greatly improved from the January release and after 3 charge cycles the standby and SOT is more or less on par with Marshmallow. I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised.
