So I did some research, and it looks like the Umi eMax is just a rebrand of the TCL M2M. Hardware is exactly the same, from the specs down to the design. If this is actually the case, all the roms should work with it (theoretically).
Also, these roms may be chinese only, I'm not sure. There are tons of forums with tons of roms out there for the TCL M2M, but most require login to download.

Here are some TCL M2M ROMs, no idea if they work:
Flyme 4.5.4 beta android 5.1
http://www.romjd.com/Device/tcl-m2m/weight/5.1/1
Direct link: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1kTEgeGZ (click the blue button in the middle)

Stock android 5.0 with dolby + other
http://www.romjd.com/Rom/Detail/77572
direct link: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1sj1Hbhb

MIUI 7 5.0.2
http://www.romjd.com/Rom/Detail/83684
Direct link: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1dDJdEbn

VIBE 2.5 beta 3 android 5.0
http://www.romjd.com/Rom/Detail/83300
Direct link: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1i3lfrXb

TRY THESE ROMS AT YOUR OWN RISK! I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY! IF YOUR PHONE IS BRICKED, IT IS NOT MY FAULT!
That said, anyone willing to give this a shot? Anybody think it might work?
I don't know much about android, but if it's the same device 100% with just a rebrand and different firmware, shouldn't it work?

I'm not really convinced that we will ever get a working Android 5. By now it looks like UMI did more less the same as you. Trying out ROMS of other phones with the same hardware and reaching an impasse. That would at least explain, why their Android 5 beta has similar issues like yours.
Unfortunately their lack of communication isn't helping, too.

I might give it a shot, depends on how risky I'm feeling. 4G doesn't work for me in the USA anyway. If it works apart from LTE bands, I'll be happy.

I'd be wary since there could be hardware differences, but you can give it a shot. I've heard some info saying TCL M2M roms work, I'm going to try it now (will take a few hours probably)

sorry guys, I can't download any of these. It seems you need to be in china or have an account. if someone can download and the re-upload them to mega or something I could probably do it.
