This versioon also contains a new preloader, so you should flash that as well. No risks of it anyway and in preloader mode you can't untick any of the partitions or you'll go back to download only mode.

It is quite unbelievable that you keep building new phones and obviously have less than settler software development team.

So far I can't update my shiny new UMI Super either via OTA or using the other methods. Nothings seem to be working and the advice we keep getting that it is user problems.

It is without any doubt UMI problem and they must do something serious to solve it. OTA must work out of the box and not via those million method that none of them seem to be working anyway.

I manage to update my phone from 2160810 to 20160923. It's easy to be done, though my main problem was installing MTK drivers on Windows 10 x64 computer. It took me an hour for the drivers and some 10 minutes to manage the flash. Anyway, it was easy, so everyone can go ahead and flash the last ROM from 20160810. However, I still have 2 questions, I'll be grateful for some help:
1. Should I flash the bootloader too? I didn't flash it as per the instructions, the phone is OK.
2. I put a SD card, however, how should I format it, like internal or external? My first choice was internal memory, it was formatted, but I was not able to see it anywhere on the phone. After that I formatted it as external and I can see it now. Which is better?

What a total mess so those on 10 can't get OTA updates, and they never will unless they SPFT the latest ROM

The mediatek drivers are hard to get onto Windows 10 64bit. Local update doesn't work,Do we install the preloader or not, problems with the SD card, fingerprint scanner not working etc etc

Why don't UMI think these things through before releasing the software !!!

Can anyone point me to a walkthrough of how to SPTF my 10 ROM to the latest ROM please for the UMI max not some generic procedure on youtube that won't work for the MAX

So , the "Download only" option doesn't make a really fresh "install", only the "Firmware upgrade"?  
Of course I believe you, but every user data has been cleared after I had made the the upgrading to 0923 ROM with SP + "Download only". After the first boot, it started a brand new andriod intial setup process, after there were no recorded fingerprints and photos, nothing.

At the weekend I will try to flash the 0923 again with "Firmware upgrade" option. I hope, It will not kill my phone.

Understood. i would give it a try. I have another question: when the update for 7.0 will come, will I face the same difficulty installing it?

\n\nI think it will be good for UMI to issue proper OTA update that will work without all of those workarounds that none of them seem to work anyway.
For a company like UMI to really make it in the hyper competitive smartphone market, Software is the King and not new iterations of the same hardware.

UMI keep iterating on new designs, hardware components, but they are proving so ill prepared or incompetent to simply issue firmware without issues.
I had my Redmi Note 3 and left it for UMI Max, because I simply wanted to use Pure Android.

But with my sad experience with UMI Max firmware. I have to wonder does UMI as company has any future of getting their act together and really providing proper solutions to their clients, or they will continue to provide generic advice without addressing the core problem, which is simply having inadequate software development team, who can’t issue proper software that will work without hassling or making their customers unhappy.
