Hello.
I also have an Umi Max with *0810 rom, so no Fota or manual update for me.
I just manually flashed the newest rom, so far it seems successful, it's just rebooted.
Now restoring all my apps and settings.
Fingers crossed.

Hi,

I also had the 0810 rom, so the update.zip, provided by bencebacsi did not work.

I had to use SPFT.  The only bit I struggled with was the drivers.  I have Windows10 64bit, and i followed every instruction, but SPFT would not recognise the phone.  In the end, I came across someone saying that it might work if connected to a USB 2 port.  I switched to a different laptop, with the same OS, and USB 2 ports.  I installed just the MediaTek drivers provided (i.e., Mediatek_Driver_Auto_Installer_1.1352.00.rar). Before doing this, you have to disable the digital driver signature verification! Make sure that your phone is off, and not connected.  I then installed the drivers by opening a Command Prompt, as an Administrator, and after navigating to the location of the extracted drivers, I ran the Mediatek-Drivers-Install.bat, via the command line.  I accepted the prompts to install the drivers, and as it was running I connected my phone.  It seemed to continue installing another driver, and then I turned on the phone, for it to pick up the requirement for further drivers.  Once everything had been installed and the command had come to an end, I turned off the phone and disconnected it from the PC.

I then started up SPFT, and pointed it to the scatter file, in the extracted files, from the supplied rom (i.e., 20160923_c239v55_kw_u11.rar). With the phone off and disconnected, I click the Download button in SPFT.  A few seconds later I connected the phone, but did not turn it on.  SPFT started the download.

Having completed the Download, I disconnected the phone, and tried to wipe that cache partition, following the instructions here:

UMI Forum

I tried to do this but found that if I started the phone, whilst holding vol-down and power (for 20 seconds), it takes me to the Factory Mode menu, with the following options:
Auto Test
Manual Test
Item Test
Test Report
Debug Test
Clear eMMC
Version
Reboot

I don't think this is the correct menu, and although the volume keys move back and forth through the menu, I cannot work out what key is to select anything!  I could only hold in the power button, until it turned itself off.

Instead I tried holding the vol-up and power keys (for 20 seconds).  When I let go of them, I get the picture of the Android laying down, with a red warning triangle positioned over its chest.   I believe this is how I am meant to get to the Recovery Menu, but again cannot work out what buttons/keys I am supposed to press to get to it.

For now, I can start the phone and use it.  The rom did install correctly.  I just can't get to the recovery mode, to wipe the cache partition.

Any Ideas?

Hi

I received my UMI MAX there is 1 month and I am very happy because it works very well, V1.01_20160810 release.

I received an email from you telling me that an update was available OTA. I am newbie in computer so I will not do it.
you say after waiting FOTA version, but I still have not updated happens, even in WiFi.

my question is: is what I expect the update FOTA UMi Max V1.01_20160923 firmware or it will never come?

I will not be sent an intermediate release.

how does it to have the android 7.0 update scheduled for Christmas if I have not received the update by FOTA?

explain to me pls
cordially

fred

With 0810 and 0819 the fingerprint reader works very well. With the 0923 very uncertain. (I have tried 0923 with SPFT, and with FOTA from 0819 to 0923.) Very often when I push the power button (to lock the screen), it is buzzing, after this it is very hard or impossible to unlock the screen by fingerprint.

Edited by citego at 2016-10-12 13:48 \n\nHi,

Thanks Dime for the suggestion.  I did read that somewhere, and tried it, but without success.

I instead found that to get to Recovery, you have to do the following:
  • Turn the phone OFF
  • Press and hold the Vol-Up key
  • Next, press and hold the the Power key.
  • Hold both these keys in, until the first UMi splash screen appears, which is normally only a few seconds, then release them.
  • You should then see the picture of the Android appear, laying down, with its chest plate open, and a warning triangle above it.
  • Now, press and hold, the part of the screen where the Harlequin LED is.
  • Next, press and hold, the power button.
  • Finally, press and Vol-Up key once.
  • Release your hold on the Power key and Harlequin LED screen area.

Note,
The key press sequence, in steps 6, 7 & 8 may need to be done fairly quickly.  I don't think it's expecting long button presses.  If you're unsure where the Harlequin LED is, then I found that if I press it, when the Android picture is showing, then you see a slight flash, in the bottom right of the screen.  The fact that it is receptive at this point in the boot/recovery process led me to experiment with it as the Recovery command sequence.

Edited by Ford_Prefect at 2016-10-16 14:27 \n\nHello.
So far the manual update from V1.01_20160810 to 20160923 seems to be successful.
My backup is restored, the fingerprint sensor works fine, the camera is a lot better.
A tip for some of you: use a decent file manager, since the Amiga days i always use dual pane file managers, (like freecommander or Double commander).
You get a lot more features and control, i never could get used to the windows file manager.

Hello.
I had the same issue, with the *0810 rom you will never get a Fota update, nor will you be able to flash the update manualy. (i tried and failed)
You will have to use the flash tool, doing a full reflash. It worked fine for me.
